After a year of warcraft....

Dark Age of Camelot has a lot of content and good PvP (via realm warfare), although it's a bit dated now. I think there's another graphics update due out soon though.

Been a WoW subber for a year and have grown tired of the grind, but I am hankering for an MMO experience akin to when I started to play SWG prior to the CU with player towns and the like.

Does this kinda stuff happen in EQ2, can you buy your own home, start a player town etc etc.

I have tried eve, found it dull (IMHO), tried City of Heroes seems a bit to simplistic, I have played UO in the past but cannot cope with the GFX anymore.

is EQ2 the answer as a certain retailer has it with the Desert of Flames addon for 9.99.

When i played EQ2 i played it from release so i guess a lot has changed now. THere were no player citys but there was Area withing cities you could rent. I imagine the y are pretty full up now lol.

ther people that have mentioned EVE aswell, its not a bad game as long as you can commit to it for at least 6 months becuase you wont see half the game until then. You deffinatley need to know the right people in EVE to get anywhere.

Well if you can get it for £10 inc a free month you may aswell just play it to see if you hate it :)

I love that all these guys gave up on eve so fast
tbh you can't have fully explored eves options in less than 6 months, and I'll bet non of the buggers did PVP of even a solo LVL 4 in a phoon etc (ie a hard mission rather than just doing it easy like)

didnt even get that far to be perfectly honest, thought the graphics and ideas were excellent. But after the tutorial it kinda of just dumped you in space and left to your own devices. Which I can see the appeal of just wasnt for me.

Given more free time I could see the value in playing it further but I just dont have the time to dedicate to it, I am more of a casual mmo'er. WoW suited this till I hit the higher levels and started to raid.

SWG was ideal for me as you could just plod along, sadly they ruined it first with the CU then the NGE. I am hoping EQ2 can satisfy my craving. If not I'll wait and see what the new raft of MMo's offers.

tbh, after the tutorial you are told to contact your agent! should have done that!

Eve is great as there are no lvls or lvl caps.

Its all skill based.

PVP is the best out of any mmorpg.

Also, very few 12 year olds play EVE. The average age of players is 20-30.

There is a steep learning curve tho. Can be putting off at first. Thankfully, there are many corps out there that will train you up. Eve University is probably the most famous. They will literally churn you out as a fully fledged pilot within a couple of months.

You can't get very far unless your in a player corporation.

Eve starts of cool, then 2 days later it gets difficult. You don't know what you are doing. After 3-4 weeks you wil lbe hooked for life.

Well, I've played all the well known ones. And a few not so well known ones.

I think WoW, EQ2, Eve, Guild Wars, DAOC are the only current ones to choose from. In terms of depth/volume of other players and general fun etc. With Eve being the exception as to volume but its one single realm so is still packed out with people though. It depends what you want I guess. I like to group a lot. And have lots of options to explore these fantasy worlds.

I'm currently playing Guild Wars Factions which has been somewhat dissapointing from the original in terms of size and freedom. So I wouldn't get that as a standalone game. I would get the original first if you go that route. I also play EQ2, which had all sorts of probs when it first came out (what mmorpg doesn't?) but on the whole has turned out into a pretty good in-depth mmmorpg.

I think Eve is still the daddy however, in terms of depth....but boy do you need to devote some mega time to it to get anywhere. Or join a decent Corp.
