The original Far Cry was very good? Personally I think the rest of the series are awful.

To a certain extent I agree.

I've replayed Crysis 2 several times, but that's only due to the mods available. Far Cry, however, was excellent, and yes, I enjoyed it just as much when the trigens showed up.

Try Spec OPS the line, another underrated game that I thought was excellent and has a very good story.

Syndicate (2012) is another which might appeal to you. It's one I'm actually playing at the moment, and overall I rather like it.

Lmao at people recommending Stalker, Borderlands and Farcry 3 / 4, OP has already said he doesn't want trading and team play just single player linear action.

In that case Metro for linear single player fun.
He may need to buy ammo if he runs low but really there's no need to if you loot and pick up what you come across on your journey.
Plus the redux versions include options so there's plenty of it lying around.

You can usually get it for £3 at legit outlets (Steam, GOG, Humble Store etc) when on sale, otherwise kinguin have it for about a fiver.

I don't play many, as I don't like modern FPS much (Shadow Warrior being a bit of a throwback). Rise of the Triad (2013) looks really interesting though - different to most and I plan to try it out.

Also, Hard Reset was made by the SW guys before they did SW. Supposed to be great.
