I've been looking at after market exhaust systems for my cbf125, i'm going to be keeping the cbf after i do my big bike test as a commuter so i'm happy to spend a bit of money.
My questions are
what is the negative and positive affects of a aftermarket exhaust's?
Will my insurance cost's go up?
Am i a plank for even thinking about it?
i will be riding on a cbt until i have enough experience so it could be the best part of 6 months until i do my test.

What category licence are you going for? Have you been on a big bike yet? Once you do, you won't want to go back on your 125 :D

I've heard custom exhausts on 125s and while they might sound nice at lower revs, they still sound like a typical 125 at higher revs. Not great really, it'd just be a waste of time and money on a 125 in my opinion.

I've got the CBF 125 myself and have just kept everything stock. It's nice and reliable and does the job which is all I need until I get something bigger :)

The power difference gain will be next to nothing. Although if you choose right you can get a nice sound and be a bit louder.

Helps people know you're there i guess. Cant think of any negatives other than the cost of it, you may also need to re jet your carb

My Cagiva mito came with an aftermarket exhaust which supposedly gives an extra 2-3 hp (out of about 20 odd)

Not quite sure about insurance, only way is to ring up and ask them. I haven't declared mine but i dare say ill get screwed if i have an accident.

As the others have said, its a bit of a waste of money, unless your current exhaust actually needs replacing, only then would i consider it myself. If your current exhaust is in good nick id leave it be.

Below is a link to a vid of a GPR exhaust (£250) on a YBR 125, they are noticeably louder even with the DB killer in. But its a heck of a cost to a small bike that you may not have for to long. As i said above i personally would only get one of these if i needed to replace my exhaust, at which point id opt for this over a new official one. I would'nt replace my current unless i really really had to.

I used to have a CBR125R that had a Scorpion exhaust. Sounded a bit better than standard but I wouldn't have bought it myself (it came with the bike when I bought it)

As others have said, just put the money towards a full license and bigger bike
