Aftershave suggestions

I'd have thought most of the current crop of designer men's fragrances would fit that bill; other than the sweet night-out friendly orientals like [Le Male and Joop Homme], light and fresh is still the dominant trend.

Two that immediately came to mind:

Bulgari Pour Homme - It's light and pleasing, based around tea with some ginger warmth, but without being too short-lived. More classy than you might think, what with it being a Bulgari! You simply can't put too much of this stuff on :)

Mugler Cologne - Longer-lasting than the 'cologne' name might suggest. Is more complex than the Bulgari, and by that I don't mean it's heavier; I mean that there are lots of little 'notes' going on throughout the wear. Fresh, and a bit soapy to start with - never a bad thing in an office, don't let that put you off - I dismissed this one at first sniff as too bland, only to find myself coming back to it over and over. Good stuff, and surprisingly cheap on t'Ebay, where you can get 2x75ml 'refill' bottles for much less than your budget.

I'd imagine both of those are available to test from department stores like House Of Fraser, Fenwicks, etc. You know the ones... they look down on TJ Hughes... but they look up to John Lewis :D

Considering fragrances are my hobby, and Basenotes is my go-to source of info, I really ought to get my hands on some Guerlain Vetiver at some point. A squillion Basenoters can't be wrong, can they?

Awesome! much appreciate the suggestions, I am going to go have a sniff at places that stock these on Monday and let you know how I get on :)

Blimey. I wouldn't have thought 16-year-old girls would want their boys smelling of musky urinal cakes!

Then again, it's not an arena I've been in for twenty years...

Haha read my post #100 - that's exactly what I thought Cool Water smelt like last year when I sampled some aftershaves :D

Updating thread with latest aftershave escapades:

So went out yesterday and managed to sample a few aftershaves I had put on my short list - 2 recommended by simisker and 5 others that proved quite popular in this thread / basenotes. (*disclaimer* I am no perfumery expert so please bear with me and my initial gut thoughts)

Issey Miyake Pour Homme - 125ml EDT £43
would be ill if I smelt this all day long - wife says it smelt like spicy toilet air freshener - I agreed

212 Sexy Man - 100ml EDT £31
smelt like a builder trying to conceal his underarm BO with Issey Miyake - seriously who likes this stuff?

Guerlain Vetiver - 125ml EDT £33.80
disappointed as unable to test this - went to 2 debenhams but they didn't stock it in store

Bulgari Pour Homme - 100ml EDT £27
This stuff is amazing!

Mugler Cologne - 100ml EDT £30
very similar to the above but I feel it is slightly more unisex - wife says she would wear it and the Bulgari would suit me more

Paul Smith Extreme - 100ml EDT £24
smells like stuff a drag queen would bathe himself in*. expect to heave hard if a man walks past with this on - girlie sweet!

Yves Saint Laurent M7 - 50ml EDT £25.50
discontinued and none in stock at stores I visited

Many thanks simisker for recommending the Bulgari - I truely love it as an everyday office fragrance and will be ordering some shortly. I would never even have tried it without your suggestion so thanks again :)

Well that's it for this years aftershave shopping - see you again next year ;)

*not that I would know

I hate smelling different stuff in shops as I always get swarmed by attentive sales people. I'm not a shopper, I'm a purchaser of goods - leave me alone or advise me if I ask for it!

Consequently I tend to wear Hugo by Hugo Boss and pretty much nothing else. I like it, the Mrs likes it, everyone's happy. But I do fancy a change, it's a very old scent - I just need something for general office wear that will last all day.
I can't be doing with many modern fragrances which are just to sweet (there's a bloke at work who must douse himself in about half a litre of Cool Water every lunchtime)
I like citrus smells, hate musky smells, anything anywhere near Vanilla and super sweet smells are out too.
I can't wear anything endorsed by rappers or idiots. In fact I'd be keen to stick with another Boss product given the choice.

Any reccomendations of ones to try?

have a look at post #'s 1 (where I used to wear Hugo Boss), 100 (my last years sampling), 163 (simisker's suggestions) and 165 :)

Seriously though I suggest Bulgari Pour Homme

All of my aftershaves are gifts, currently using up a Joop! Go (my fave), Gucci (2nd fave) and a Ferrari o.O

Was skeptical when I was given the Ferrari, but it's not so bad. I just wouldn't ever admit to it if I was wearing it. Unless of course I one day bought a Ferrari.

Might get stopped off in debenhams and see if they stock it. have a quick smell and then off to order it much cheaper online

would be interested in your thoughts :)

Ordered mine last night from 'cheap smells' with 6.5% cashback via 'top cashback' - 100ml for ~£26 aint to be sniffed at *da dish dish*

Currently wearing Armani Code in the office today - not a strong smell, very nice - check it out.

so summer is just round the corner. just nipped into boots to see if they had any nice new summery scents. they still had mostly their winter range in

anyone got any good recommendations for a nice new summer scent? cheers!

I have had a lot of aftershaves/scents and the one that impresses the ladies the best is without a shadow of a doubt Paco Rabanne - Ultraviolet.

Every time i have worn it or friends have worn theirs the ladies in the group have comlimented the wearer.

Bought my dad some Creed aftershave for xmas....smells like dead walrus to be honest, think it was called aluminium.

But i would say i have heard nothing but good things about the Creed fragrances..hence the purchase.

Davidoff - Cool Water (cant believe so many people recommended this. Smelt like the toilet biscuit that is put in mens urinals. 1/5 stars :()

Is there something wrong with your nose? It's the opposite of musky IMO - love the stuff.

Also a fan of Issey Miyake even if it does smell a bit girly.

I got given a bottle of XS which apparently girls love but to me it smells like cheap, musky perfume so I never use it.

lacoste original (comes in a massive bottle and cheap as it's an old scent. I love it though, so does the gf. Quite 80s but who cares?)

Lacoste elegance. My going out kind of one.
