Age of Empires Online Released! Free to play

Game asks for product key? I have tried this:
1. Open the Games For Windows Client
2. Click the Downloads tab
3. Click the icon for Age of Empires Online
4. Click View Keys
5. You will see a numerical code under LIVE access code. Enter this code when prompted in-game.

And I have made sure my Age on-line folder is added via settings nothing seems to work the list is empty?
 
ak22 the game asked for a cdkey aswell i had to register a new windows live account as most of mine have been offline ;)

Can anyone who's played comment on what they mean by "persistent world"? Does everyone play together on one big map or is it just 1v1 with instancing or something? Is there any progression or leveling, etc?
 
It's persistent because you have your capital city, which you upgrade after doing quests (which is the real-time stragety part, where you base build and gather resources.) Once you finish a quest you go back to your capital city to buy thing/upgrade things/level up more things, etc.

In other words, capital city = persistant, quests/pvp = instanced.

There is also "pvp". But you have to be level 10 apparently.

It seems quite polished, not a bad little game. Not quite sure what im doing though, just done a few quests and now im lvl 3. The general chat in game is like wow chat but on speed :p
 
What a load of old horse ****!! Apparently my live email or password is incorrect even though I can log onto xbox.com forums, MSN etc fine with my live I.D :/
 
Can someone comment on the extent of the F2P-ness? Is not buying content within the game going to totally gimp you? Or is it like Bloodline Champions where nearly all ingame content can be accessed by a F2Per eventually.

I think the game gimps you if you dont purchase the factions content.

Some of the premium units are so op its unreal.
