Aggression from video games 'linked to incompetence'

I think you guys should take this study a little more seriously, study into whether or not game content actually causes violence is incredibly important if we are ever to squash that opinion, yes the outcome may seem obvious but the fact they reached that outcome via a real study justifies it completely.

The thing is, this effect is relevant to everything we do, from Pokemon to football to your day job, failure and a feelings of inadequacy or incompetence effects everyone and in very different ways.

Also, the study is not saying the aggression caused by this leads to murder, just that aggression is more likely caused by the mechanics and/or success in games rather than as an effect of their content.

To be honest, I think the people stupid enough to believe that video game content causes aggression/violence aren't going to pay much attention to a study that backs up its findings with actual evidence, since they've already made it obvious that they're perfectly happy to jump to conclusions based on nothing at all. :p

Edit: First example I could find: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-24141138

What does the fact it was GTA that was stolen actually have to do with it? Why are they not blaming watches and mobile phones as well, since those were also stolen? Morons

That sounds amazing! I'd love to meet someone like her!

Tbh, if it wasn't for the fact she was very attractive, I'd have just buggered off home. Playing Dreamcast just to get laid at 3am the morning before you have to present to 10-15 finance professionals is not my idea of fun.

This reminds me of a film I saw about a high school shooting. It was implied the perpetrators' penchant for violent video games was somehow related to their violence in real life; it just goes to show you shouldn't believe everything you see in films! :p They sure are enjoyable though.

Random post content <-> username correlation is random  :p

And again, even if that were a real scenario, it proves nothing. Its highly likely that a violent person who likes shooting things will be attracted to a video game which involves shooting things. It doesn't necessarily follow that someone who enjoys a video game which involves shooting things will be violent in real life and want to shoot things...

"Feelings of aggression after playing video games are more likely to be linked to gameplay mechanics rather than violent content, a study suggests."

No ****. ARMA is a violent video game and I can play it for days at a time and even on a particularly sucky day when I'm being owned, not have a complete break down.

But FIFA. I stopped playing FIFA because it was rage inducing and because of the fortune I was spending on Playstation controllers that were being bounced off walls.
