Hi there,

I'm considering adding an SSD to the parent's PC to give it a little more kick. It's only really used for Spotify, web browsing and the occasional PDF but the old hard disk really drags down the system's general usability.

The system's specs are:
ASUS G31 motherboard (only SATA 2, I believe)
E2180 (stock clocks)
2GB DDR2

My main objectives are to kill the HDD noise and boost the system's responsiveness. I think a 60GB Agility 3 at £60 would be a decent buy. Any thoughts?

i think if its just for light use then it will be fine,60gb isnt much space to play with once os is installed ect

Sounds a good idea, an SSD will help any system feel snappier :)
I'm sure they've got better, but if you can afford an M4 over the OCZ I would. Just for reliability really.

Even on SATAII an SSD gives a nice improvement.

You can always keep the HDD and put personal files on there if space is a problem?

Yeah, I thought space could be a bit tight but was over there this weekend and the HDD's barely been touched so everything should fit comfortably within 25GB or so leaving loads of room for them to never use :)

Good point and I'll be leaving the existing HDD in the machine (but hopefully powered-down by windows) should they need additional space.

Massive overkill for the parent's IMO, but it will quicken things up. You can use their existing hard drive for storage esp the Spotify cache

Also, just a reformat on the original drive will speed things up as well

My dad wanted a PC that he didnt have to wait for. (He previously had a celeron and a ide 160gb drive) I got an i3 and an agility 3 and he is more than happy. Its pretty much silent and really quick. He just got an external hard drive enclosure for the old hdd he had so still had the space when needed.
