My 754 system is beginning to show its age.

I need to keep AGP as i want to keep using my 7800gs+ ( 24 pipe ) card.

Currently using a 3700+ Clawhammer 2.4ghz + 2 gig Ram.

Budget ~£200

My list :

Asrock AM2NF3-VSTA (Socket AM2) AGP DDR2 Motherboard £29.99
(£35.24)
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB) £57.99
(£68.14)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ 3.00GHz (Socket AM2) - OEM £83.99
(£98.69)

Sub Total : £171.97
Shipping : £8.25
VAT : £31.54
Total : £211.76

Would this be a worthy upgrade ?

Cheers,

Mark

you're spec'd processor will need a cooler unless you're clawhammer one will fit AM2 as well.

setup below use you're graphics card and ram (long as it is 2x1gb), if its 4x512 then go with the corsair ram u spec'd and change the processor to the 4400.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.13GHz (1066FSB) - Retail £104.99 (£123.36)

Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA (Socket 775) PCI-Express/AGP DDR2 Motherboard £36.99 (£43.46)

Sub Total : £141.98
Shipping : £8.25
VAT : £26.29
Total : £176.52

I agree with above. Go intel as they overclock SO EASY. I've never overclocked before but with the C2Ds it was a piece of cake. I actually have the earlier model of that board and it's great. You can even keep your DDR1 ram

I like this :D

I didn't know you could use DDR with this board , and a PCI-E slot is a good thing for the future.

So keeping within budget , i could up the processor to an E6600.

Thanks.

No point buying a new system and keeping the AGP card.

You current system will run your 7800GS+ at almost its top potential. If you get a X2, DDR2 etc, you probably wont see any performance inprovements in actual games, as you'll still be going as fast as your GS+ will let you.

Flog your GS+ - you'll get a good price, get a X1950Pro, C2D system.
