at the moment im running a 6800gt and over the past 1 1/2 year have been very pleased with it. however i think its time for an upgrade! really all i want is a card thats gonna let me play at 1280 res with most sliders turned on high. this rig will be to tide me over to mid nxt year when i can afford to upgrade, but i just want bf2 and bf2142 to look a bit more pretty and run a bit smoother.

im running: -

a643000
1gb ram
2 x 250 hd's
1 x pioneer 110 dvd writer
350watt hiper psu
17" crt

just wondering if the psu will be enough to handle any of the modern gfx cards plus my current spec? also please bear in mind its got to be agp! not bothered about brand, budget start off with £150

thanks guys

7600 GT is faster than a 6800 GT, but not massively so. Follow this link and then change the game in the third drop down list for a comparison across several titles-

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/graphics/charts.html?modelx=33&model1=529&model2=545&chart=196

And if you want an estimate of where the 7800GS+ would stand, select 7900 GT in the first drop down list, since the 7800GS+ is a 7900 GT core. 7800GS+ isn't great value for money (no AGP card is), but it is a more substantial upgrade from what you have. It's also beyond your budget.

PSU should be fine btw. 7600 GT uses about half the power your 6800 GT uses. 7800gs+ uses around the same or slightly less than a 6800 GT too. 7xxx series is more energy effecient than 6800 series.

If you wanted a slightly more unusual solution, you could change the motherboard to AsRock one that has PCI Express and AGP [MB-002-AK Asrock 939Dual-SATA2 (Socket 939 & Upgradable to AM2) AGP & PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-002-AK) £37.99], then at your leisure perhaps go for a 7300 GT DDR3 [GX-005-GL OcUK Galaxy GeForce 7300 GT Superclocked SILENT 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-005-GL) £69.99] overclock and volt-mod it. Total cost, including VAT: £126.88

A friend of mine did this with a 7300 GT and got 6600 Marks in 05 and over 15000 Marks in 03

This would be my suggestion, it is a bit over the budget and I am making the assumption that you are on socket 939 but it would be worth it instead of getting a 7600gt which is not that much faster than your current 6800gt. You may well also need a new PSU but I suspect that would be the case whatever you changed to.

GX-042-OK OcUK GeForce 7900 GS 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-042-OK)
£98.99 £98.99
MB-002-AK Asrock 939Dual-SATA2 (Socket 939 & Upgradable to AM2) AGP & PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-002-AK)
£37.99 £37.99
Subtotal £136.98
Shipping (City Link Parcel Next Day (Delivered Mon-Fri)) £8.25
VAT £25.42
Total £170.65

//edit melbourne720 your signature is way over the allowed limits, you have 4 lines of text to play with so you should probably change it. :)

My 6800gt runs BF2 on 1280x1024/highest settings with AA and AF at 50fps, you DO NOT need a better 3dcard for those.

What you do need to do is get more ram seeing as 1gb will most definitely not handle highest settings without chugging.

But you've been suspended now, lol :p
