i need a good agp graphics card to update my brother in laws pc,he only wants to spend around the £100 mark ! and would perfere an nvidia based gpu .

his spec is

amd xp3200 socket a
1gb of ram

thanks for the help

If he can stretch a bit to £123 then he can get a 7600 GT, cracking cards by all accounts, thats with the VAT included, without they are £104. :)

Does it have to be new ?
If not search around for an X800pro@pe speeds. It will get him over 6k in 3D mark 05 and run anything he wants to play.

I'd buy second-hand if the budget is strict, or a 7600GT like LoadsaMoney said if it can be stretched as it's incredible value for money on AGP.

upgrading from an geforce fx5700
which is better an ;

Sapphire X1600 Pro 512MB DDR2 AVIVO TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail (GX-120-SP)
£105.69

or

BFG GeForce 7600 GS OC 512MB DDR2 HDTV/DVI (AGP) - Retail (GX-031-BG)
£103.34

7600GS is better but the extra memory is useless on that card.

I would reccomend possibly a second hand 6800GT if one can be found within budget. Near enough 7600GT performance but should be cheaper. (I personally feel the 76GT on AGP is a rip for those people still on AGP as you can get a PCI-e one for like £90.

All AGP cards are a rip, look at the 7800 GS+ for about £260, its just a 7900 GT on AGP, yet the PCI-E 7900 GT is only about £180, so id say the price difference between the 7600 GT on AGP/PCI-E is fine as its only about a tenner or so more, not well over £80 for the same card like the 7900 GT on AGP/PCI-E.

You can get a much faster x1900 XT for £200 on PCI-E, plus a PCI-E mobo to go with it for about £260, or you could get the slightly faster x1800 XT on PCI-E for only £150, which is £110 cheaper, and that £110 your saving would get you a decent PCI-E mobo to go with it, so as i said the 7600 GT AGP/PCI-E difference is nothing, not like you can get a decent PCI-E mobo for a tenner is it. :)

No i was replying to oweneades post about AGP cards not being worth it, but in the 7600 GT's case it is as i pointed out, as the difference is only about a tenner, where by the 7900 GT its about £80 difference which isnt worth it. :)

Id go for the 7600 GT as i said as they are cracking cards for the price, wether they are PCI-E or AGP as as i said the difference is only about a tenner. :)

Where did I say it wasn't worth it? I merely said its a rip for people on AGP as its £30 more expensive than the pci-e equivilant (I am using the 7600GT that could be got for £90 as a comparison - unless the price has changed). Its is a fantastic card but I think it should be the same price as the pci-e model - I just think its unfair thats all.

To sum up 7600GT great card for agp or pci-e but should be cheaper imo.
