AHCI and SSD/HDD

A friend of mine is going to put a SSD in his system.

Am I right in thinking the correct way to do this is

Install SSD
Disconnect all other drives
set AHCI in the bios
install windows
Connect HDD

Also will the HDD work correctly with AHCI set in the bios

Sorry to ask the above but I have never mixed SSDs and HDDs

Correct although you don't have to disconnet your other HDDs. Just select the partition where you wish the OS to be installed i.e. your SSD.

You should set AHCI to enable advanced features but if you forget, you can change it afterwards without having to reinstall windows again. I have forgotten many a time and wonder why the RST drivers don't work or install :p.
