The Intel AHCI and RAID drivers are one and the same since ICH5. Same iastor.sys, different .inf files to load it during install, depending on what mode you want.
Grab the "Intel Matrix Storage Manager Floppy Configuration Utility" or the Intel Matrix Raid Manager utlility, write to a floppy, press F6 after the Windows installer starts and select the AHCI driver from the floppy.
Thanks for the response but I'd already tried those particular drivers, it only seems to contain the drivers for SATA RAID and not SATA AHCI for some reason.
I cannot for the life of me find any 32bit XP AHCI floppy boot maker on Intel's site.
Glad you got it working, I was starting to wonder if I had given you bad advice , even after just two weeks ago I used those drivers to install in AHCI mode

Yeah it looks like they just changed the later drivers so that rather than showing all available drivers, it instead just shows 4 raid drivers and you have to scroll up to get to the rest, even though it isn't apparent you can scroll.
Not sure why they would change that, I can't have been the only one caught out by it.
