Im trying to install win7rc after enabling ahci on the board.. I hav several other pcs all set up the same way... XP required me to slipstream ahcci drivers into build, but installed fine. Win7 on my other pc installed ok too...

I have enabled ahci on sata interface (the blue connectors - I assume these are the intel ones).. and connected my hard disk to 0 and my dvdrw to 3... I then changed the boot order which had detected my Pioneer dvdrw... On bootup, when ahci screen loads, you can see both the hd and dvdrw, but I dont get the option in boot from cd.. and windows just loads... Yet the same install disk works fine in sata mode...

Setup would still start even if there was a controller driver problem, but this does not happen..

Ive tried vairous other confis of ahci settings but to no avail...

Any ideas??

I know this probbly sounds silly but have you tried checking the boot order in the BIOS after you set AHCI ?

Sounds silly, but the obvious thing to ask.. yes, it is first boot device... I eve made sure to reboot after enabling ahci then selct the named dvdrw which only shows up after ahci enabled...

The light even flickers on the drive, and you can hear it spin up.. almost like it cant find the boot info, but as I said, it boots fine when in normal sata mode...

Have you got another dvd drive to try.
Had a problem with my old Samsung, it HATED AHCI.
Machine would simply refuse to boot unless I unplugged the drive.

try putting the cd drive on the other set of sata ports

Will give that a go... I have 2 identical pioneer drives in 2 pcs.. ahci enabled boots fine in one pc, so it cant be the drive...

I only enable ahci so that I could use hotswap esata on one of my pcs... are there any other benefits which may affect performance, or is it only negligable, if any...

On my UD5 AHCI is unusable, I have had massive problems with it all weekend trying to get it to work. I have it set to raid now and despite not having a raid array it's working happily.
