I installed my M225 128GB over the weekend and was told to turn on AHCI in bios to make the drive quicker. Anyway, i think i have turned the right part on but am i right in saying that once AHCI is turned on the system will have to go through a install like process during every boot up to pick up the drives? This usually delays the boot up time by around 5 secs? Im not bothered but just wondered if this is correct for AHCI?

Its more of a check of the drives, think its mainly due to optical drive though, as mine was causing a 25s delay untill i turned that down to 5 in the bios.

But as far as im aware its normal, mine goes through the hard drive checks in no time at all, its the 5sec checking optical drive that slows me down. But its only 5s so not that bad.

Yeah... I think it's called Timeout or something like that in BIOS and is usually found under the Drives section. On mine it's set to 35 seconds but even though I have AHCI enabled, it only takes Windows 7 25 seconds to load after POST has completed and the motherboard loading screen appears. I don't think I'll gain anything by lowering the Timeout setting. Might try it though as I've noticed that my DVD-Rewriter light flashes on and off while Windows is loading even when there's no disc in the drive.

Yeh Darren is right its called timeout, i think its more for checking for bootable media and such in the optical drive/s i may be wrong.

I put mine down to 5 (lowest would go) as post was taking longer then i liked with it set to maximum. But once post is completed windows loads in no time at all.

Darren u may noticed post to be quicker if u put timeout to its lowest setting, but realisticly we are only talking seconds anyways and not mins lol.
