AHCI > Raid possible?

Usually. You want to make sure the RAID drivers are loaded before you switch over to RAID in the BIOS. The other thing you can do is that if you've got a secondary controller, you can put your existing drive on that as AHCI, then configure new drives as RAID on the primary controller, just image the existing drive over to RAID, then move the AHCI drive back and make it part of the RAID array.

I'd recommend taking backups or keeping a copy of the original disk image just in case.
