aio for primo

I too have a Enthoo Primo I built and used for some time, but because it was too big to fit where I keep my computer(s) it is boxed up in closet now. :(

I used it with both air and water cooling and loved it in all ways except size.

Your motherboard has about 75mm center CPU to near side of nearest PCIe socket and 55mm to near side of RAM socket.

I think all x16 PCIe are same so you could use a lower one for GPU and use any of a number of big CPU coolers like PU cooler like TRUE Spirit 140 Power, NH-U14S or Le Grand Macho RT. All three of these are extremely good if not the best cooling and very quiet too .. and all will clear RAM no problem. Only the Le Grand Macho RT will not overlap top PCIe socket. The TRUE Spirit is available here in UK on river site but I cannot find any Le Grand Macho.

There are many other top tier coolers like NH-D15, NH-D15S, and R1 Universal to choose from, but few if any are as cool and quiet.
D15 and D15S are, but D15 front fan would be setting quite high to clear RAM and are more expensive than NH-U14S or TRUE Spirit 140 Power.
R1 Universal fans are not quite as quiet and it also costs more.
PH-TC14PE would be cool and quiet but will not fit with front fan. You could mount the fans in pull / pull on back of each tower instead of on front of them.

thats great info Doyll,. glad its not mad using this to aircool
i will check up on the three coolers you have mentioned that will fit with my dom ram. thankyou for pointing out the measurement and concept i was not understanding. as i understand the later part of your post, i could choose other coolers too but would have to load the fans on one side not both.
re the pcie slots, this excerpt from the sheet says the pcie lanes are all x16. i will be plugging in an intel 750 nvme drive and a palit 1080

Most twin tower coolers perform the same or very close to the same with 2x fans pulling as with 2x fans pushing air. Most only loose a couple degrees when running only a middle fan. NH-D15 / D15S often score a little lower temps then others, but it also has fan/s that run 200-400rpm faster. I have tested TRUE Spirit 140 Power and a few other big coolers like PH-TC14PE Silver Arrow IB-e, TRUE Spirit 140 rev.A and know others who have tested NH-D14 and similar big coolers with higher performance fans. Increased airflow improves cooling ability at the cost of louder noise levels. With really high performance fans makeing 50dB of noise temps drop 7-10c on high overclocked systems. For example i7 920 @ 4.2-4.4GHz under TS140P lowered temps by 9c, NH-D14 by 8c, PH-TC14PE by 7c. But I don't want my noise levels that high.

ok wow i already owe you the cost of some shoe leather. Basically it all sounds good! will do reading on each

ok i read the tweaktown review of the grand rt. In the conclusing paragraph it says the follwing, with reference to ram clearance.

We would normally be complaining about memory clearances, but the Le Grand Macho has accommodations in this design to make sure that no matter what motherboard you choose, you can stick in 46mm worth of memory under the back side of the cooler too. This means that while you may have issues trying to remove RAM with the cooler in place, you do get a wide selection of choices in heat spreader designs without causing a conflict

Does the bolded bit mean there is an interchangable part?

If you plan to use more than 4 sticks of RAM the Doninators will not fit under Le Grand Macho between CPU and back of case.

it is four sticks, each worth 8gb.
ok i have found a grandee on a german river.
just to be clear tho, can you comment on the following for me?

1) it will fit in case and 2011-3 socket
2) it will not collide with ram ( do i have to use specifc slots for the ram, there are 8 available) and wanted quad config as mb can do that
please see this image . i think it details this?
http://imgur.com/a/RjpwQ

3) it will keep a Haswell 5960x cool when mildly overclocked. (4.2 i guess)

green lights all round and i can get cracking!

As I read it from your manual the RAM sockets front front to CPU socket are:
C1
C2
D1
D2
CPU socket
B2
B1
A2
A1
Your image from page 28 looks like to have quad RAM performance you need to use C1, D1, B1 & A1 .. 2x in front of CPU and 2x in back of CPU.

Le Grand Macho sets back so there is no clearance problems in front of CPU socket, but your RAM to too tall to fit under the back of Le Grand Macho.

I do not know what your GPU plans are, but TRUE Spirit 140 Power and NH-U14S will cove top PCIe socket .. PCIE7.

NH-D15S cooler will not cover PCIe socket and will fit over RAM.

i have an intel 750 nvme drive and a palit gamerock 1080 gpu to plug into PCIEslots, so lots of room to sacrifice a slot to a cooler overhang.

OK, SO to check my understanding:
the macho is out due to ram inquad config conflict
2) Noctua NH-D15S ( Basically the single fan version of the d15 -which would also have ram problems- ) will fit around my ram and not obscure any pcie slots.
3) If i cant cope with the colour scheme of the Noctua and use a lower Gpu slot, i could choose to use a Tru spirit 140 Power.

4) would either of the following the following cooler clear the ram as both would fit build aesthetic very well

really appreciating the help and im trying to keep up!

Agree, Macho is out.

NH-D15S has same finpack as D15, but it's heatpipes are formed to offset cooler so from center CPU toward PCIe is 67mm (+fan clips). With single fan it is 1-3c warmer than D15 .. lower speed single fan moves less air against resistance then push/pull fans.

Both NH-U14S and TRUE Spirit 140 Power are 75mm center CPU toward PCIe socket. Some reviews show U14S being a little better than TRUE Spirit 140 Power. This is because the U14S has NF-A15 1500rpm fan while TRUE Spirit 140 Power and TY-147A 1300rpm fan. We cannot buy NF-A15 1500rpm fans .. they only come on coolers. ;)

PH-TC14CS only has about 60mm RAM clearance without bottom fan. I do not like pancake / downflow coolers because their airflow makes it much harder to keep their heated exhaust from mixing into case's cool intake air. Tower coolers draw cool air in their front and push their heated air back toward case rear exhaust.

Ph-TC14PE will not clear RAM either.

Thanks for the appreciation. Just play it forward in your life. ;)

Here is lots and lots of info about TRUE Spirit 140 Power.

I've got a Swiftech H240-X in the top of my primo. Fantastic build quality and cooling (look for reviews, Hi tech legion has a good in depth review) but because of the pump placement you can't mount fans in push and pull.

Have mine on pull at the top of the radiator and keeps my 5930K nice and cool. The option to expand it should you so wish at a later date is a great feature. Looks very good too through the side window.

Best

Wulf
m8 I have bought the thermalright true spirit 140 POWER Cooler. Will update on how it goes
