AIO Placement

It seems to be the popular choice of having 3 fans at the front. Looks like I am gonna need to buy another fan to be used as the rear exhaust and use the 3 Lian Li fans provided with the case in the front.
So going on all of the comments setup should be
3 x 120mm fans at front for intake
AIO up to with fans set up as exhaust (which it appears to have come prebuilt as that)
1 x 120mm fan at the rear for exhaust

There’s no issue putting the AIO on the top as an intake - though convection is a thing, the flow rate of air through convection is an order of magnitude lower than that produced by decent 800 RPM fans and above. Hence, for the purpose of simplicity, it can be ignored.

This review demonstrates that - the tests show that the orientation makes no difference, within margin of error:

It is usually best to have an AIO pulling in fresh air, so either from the front or top. However there are two main considerations:

  • How restricted the airflow is at the front
  • The amount of clearance mounting it at the top
These two factors should determine your orientation.

I have the 280 version and its mounted at the top as an exhaust, with 3 intake at the front and 1 extra at the rear for air flow. No issues with temps, the Artic is a cool customer.
Is this also in a lancool 2? I was hoping to do the same but doubt there is enough clearance.

Has the misconception of convection and assisted air flow by fans been put to bed?

you can have whatever arrangement and location of radiator you want

you can have it at the front as exhaust if you want as long as you have sufficient supply of fresh air to cool your internals and don’t create some kind of stall in your case.

conventionally, rads are out in front as fans pull air in from front.

Rads out on top can be either in take or exhaust. But I find it is far better to either have no fans at the top or use top as in take in the modern motherboards due to the heat giving out on the VRM and the ram modules

so if you want to mount rads at the top make it intake is no problem.

that case is pretty spacious and it has loads of fan options. So you should be able to easily configure it to give decent air flow and mixing of hot air and cold air in the case and exhaust it appropriately.

also repeating a few others have said which is completely true - fan assist air flow will override convection (hot air rises etc), with your intakes filtered, more air in than air out will help keep dust out.

Sorry for late reply i now have luan li o11 3 intake side 3 intake bottom and 280mm rad exhaust top
In case anyone else runs in to the same query - I now have the lancool2 installed. Decided to go with a 360, in the front as it was guarenteed to fit.

From looking at this case, I highly doubt at 280 would have fit anyway.
