Is it true you can't open up, purge the old fluid and replace (say after five years)

What happens when CPU socket changes, do you have to scrap the whole lot- and buy whole new AOI rather than getting new adaptor kit? Are the pumps replaceable in AIO or once the pump fails it's part of the head and not replaceable?

Some aios you can do it, I had to replace a faulty gasket on my old artic freezer 2 420mm by taking the cold plate off, as long as you put the correct mixture back in.

be quiet! AIO come with a refill bottle and port to use after 2 years, most Asetek AIO don't have method to be refilled.

Most of the manufactures if they don't supply the correct bracket at time of sale will either ship or sell you a upgrade kit depending on when you originally bought the AIO.

Just depends on the AIO
Still got a few swiftech laying around
Those you could change coolant
Expand them to include gpu or extra rad etc
Probably the majority though aren't meant to be
But you can anyway
Either by opening the cold plate
Or by detaching a hose

As Mcnumpty says, a lot of them you can get the coldplate off and refill but it's going to be AIO dependent. With CPU socket changes you just hope the socket is compatible or that an adapter is released. If the pump fails it is probably e-waste and not economical to repair the pump unit. You could always try and repurpose the Rad section though, perhaps.

Swiftech ones yes can easily repurpose the radiator
Uses standard g 1/4 fittings
Other manufacturers would be more of a diy/bodge job
