Aion & patch 2.0 thoughts?

Yeh I say the email, game is extraordinarily polished, i'll hand it that, I may well resub after I'm done with WoW.

Waiting for SW: ToR here, never really been intrested in AION the game plays not really for me but the graphics etc look amazing from what i'v seen.

Still looks like a final fantasy type of game with big numbers flying all over the place when you deal damage.

well i bought it on release and it was my second MMO 'wow-beater' that i got stung on so any freebies i can get are welcome :)
funny reading over on the aion section of steam forums, its now not classed as a grind apparently but takes 2 weeks to do a level or two!

You realise a Grind is different to taking a long time to level? A grind is where you have to kill lots of mobs etc. to level up. However apparently Aion has introduced lots of quests which means that you can gain most of your levels by killing very few mobs and just doing quests.

See the difference? Aion before = Not enough quests, lots of mob killing. Aion (Apparently) now = Much more quests, small amounts of mob killing. So although it takes along while, it should be more interesting and more fun.

and the quests require X amount of mobs to be killed or things to be collected.
whatever way you look at it, its all a grind. and 2 weeks for a level or 2, thats just bonkers.

2 weeks to do a level ? really ? you must login kill a mob then logout !!

I'm extremely casual in my approach to MMo's and play Lotro and Aion, I'm also an altoholic and recently started a new Sorc on Perento Eylos side and within a few weeks it's upto level 41. I play solo and take my time exploring and doing the odd group instances, however Aion now has tons of quests and 'solo' instances you can repeat offering quick xp and shiny stuff. I have been back on Spatalos doing a level a day on my other main characters and the amount of cash and loot has massively changed!

Is there any need to grind levels in Aion? absolutely not, you can gain a level every few days with a mixture of questing, sieges and instances(Imo they have probably made it too easy).... during this current welcome back week if you had an account it's defo worth poking your bonce in to try out.

anyways, some rather good news regarding PvP -Rifting !!!! :-

When Aion®: Assault on Balaurea™ released, rifting changed in Aion®. The rifting changes focused on placing a strong protective buff on homeland defenders in lands accessed by rifts. Some time after the launch of Assault on Baluarea, our Aion Community and Production Teams gathered your feedback, both in the forums and through a gamewide survey, to gauge your thoughts and preferences on rifting. The results of that feedback culminated in a proposal we took to the development team in Korea.
In the feedback gathered, you indicated that you felt that lower-level players needed to have some to protection. However, the majority of you also told us clearly that you felt that the strength of the defensive bonus after Assault on Balaurea launched was excessive.
On Friday, December 10 we will begin a month-long trial of changes to the current rifting settings that take into account your feedback. After the month is over, we will send out another in-game survey to gauge your thoughts on the changes to determine if we need to do any final tweaking of these settings.

During this one-month trial:

· The protection for defenders in Morheim and Eltnen will remain, but the strength of the protection will be significantly reduced. The intent of this change is to provide protection to lower-level players, but also allow for challenging rifting battles in Morheim and Eltnen.

· The protection for defenders in Heiron and Beluslan will be removed entirely. This change allows higher-level players to engage in full-scale rifting and to complete spy quests, such as the Betoni’s quest line.
Thank you for your patience and your valuable ongoing feedback during this process.

I wonder if these changes are also being made in South Korea(where the game is made) or just here, either way it's good they're listening to player feedback outside of asia.

I'v been playing abit during the re-activation period and have noticed lots of really nice changes, I actually didn't even notice the protection buff, is it automatic or do you have to obtain it somehow?
I'v only played maybe 6 weeks in total (38 templar) but when there's is stuff to do I find it's one of the more enjoyable mmo's around. Of all the MMO's that I'v played, it's in my top 3 for sure.

Does this game still suffer from huge lag?,i played around 1-2 months ago and the lag is Sanctum made the game unplayable even with silly high frames.

I thought i would give the servers a chance so i tried to persist for a few weeks but nothing ever improved.

Shame as i liked the game

yeah lag is Sanctum is bad , god knows how laggy the pvp is only got to lvl 26 and cancelled :p

I'v heard fort sieges are really bad for lag due to there being like 200+ players present, never actually participated in one myself. Sometimes sanctum is abit jittery for a few seconds (as it loads everyone) when you first run into the square but after that it's fine, and no network related lag at all.
I'v been in a few mass pvp's (around 30v30) and they've been quite smooth, game handles multiple sprites well imo:), for an MMO it certainly doesn't perform worse than expected.

I don't think it's actual lag you're getting in Sanctum, it's just your graphics card not being able to manage all the people. I got it constantly in Sanctum, it's why I didn't even bother to level to serious PvP range, the game engine just can't seem to handle large numbers of people without a serious amount of power (I'm using a 5770, 4gb of ram, and a 3.6GhZ 8400 for reference).

the buff was an automatic reduction of dmg whilst in the enemies homeland which iirc ranged between 40-60%.. it was great from a PvE questers POV but Aion is defo geared towards PvP so a lot stopped playing.

Quite true, you need some decent raw power to get things going. I always had to use the Shift-F12 shortcut to only display players names during siege's which kind of looked daft... recently upgraded from a c2d 2.6Ghz 8800GTX to i7 3Ghz 6gig ram and a 460GTX and its brilliant.. infact I was attempting to take a screenshot during a siege attack other night and didnt notice I had started fraps recording, I could still fly around fighting with hundreds of characters on screen.
