Air Con Fault

Then that is your issue. Runabouts at this dealer group are reconditioned to MOT standard only and anything outside of this remit is not repaired.

They are called "Runabouts" for a reason - cheap cars to get people on the road. Sold with circa 12 months MOT and a 30 day warranty on the engine/gearbox and that's it.

Did the sales guy explain this?

If he did, then they are doing NOTHING WRONG.

Yes they did. If the car was advertised as having air conditioning but the air con does not work, they will have to repair it under SOGA. This is perhaps unless they can prove beyond doubt that the problem wasnt there when they sold it....which i doubt they could.

SOGA isn't optional, even if a dealer decides to give give its PX castoffs a funky cute name and a 30 day warranty on randomly selected parts.

Was always under the impression they try to use the "runabouts" range to hide from their obligations as a dealer but ultimately the law doesn't let them.

Will see on Friday how things go but from initial contact with (i think) the business manager he seems at least aware of the law they operate under unlike the actual salesman who's best response was to complain i'd waited 2 weeks to inform them. As for waiting 2 weeks, took that long to realise that yes there was really no difference with the air con on or off (the standard fans are quite chilly without it).

BS

They can't waiver their legal obligations by selling cars under a fancy banner.
