Air Con query

Ive just been leaving on the air-con all the time lately. Even when the temperature gauge is set to warm, I leave it on because it dries the air and keeps the windows mist-free. Its knocked about 25 miles off a tank of fuel. I used to do about 400 miles before the light came on...last fill up it came on at 375 :S

Then again, since uni finished for the summer, most of my driving has been just social stuff around town and country lanes though, not a 50mph cruise up and down the A2 each day, so that probably accounts for a vast portion of the lost economy :)

Seems my fans are doing the same thing, the low speed "constant-on" when the aircon is on is not functioning, and as a result its causing the fuse to blow on the "high-speed" due to it having to pulse on and off too often.

I will be knocking up the resistor-mod at the weekend and we shall see what happens, expect a thread next week :)

As an update I replaced the fuse (it was blown I was being an idiot and looking at the wrong one) and I now have the exact same symptoms as you so any info on what you achieve would be gratefully accepted :)

Hmm I don't notice any loss in power etc with climate control on. And it's doesnt seem to make the revs dip, so it can't be sapping too much bhp surely?

And as said if you're on the motorway having the windows down will probably increase your fuel consumption more than aircon anyways!

Anyway to answer the ops question I dont notice the car get warmer in trafic etc. And I assume that the octavia will have a similar setup you yours.

Losing a couple of mpg is no big deal. You could do much worse plenty of times than a couple of mpg! :p

There is power loss of course but you need to push in accelerator a bit more to cope with AC on.
