Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone can suggest a good air purifier to me.

It is for a small bedroom (but it would be nice if it is useful for the living room as well).

Main reason is dust. There is just soooo much dust, I don't even know where it comes from.

Are philips i800 or Trusense z2000 any good?

The two things that I care about are noise and the availability of filters (and their price). About a year ago, I saw a Winix purifier at Cost,co but it is now out of stock, not only that, its filters are not found anywhere for cheap, so I'm worried about dropping 150 bucks on a device and then be stuck with either really expensive or no replacement filters.

On a side note, I did a DIY thing with a trusense filter and a noctua fan on top. It is not very efficient (air flow wise)

Thank you.

Got two Coway AP-1512s. Very happy with it. Helps with my hayfever.

I use a few different MedicAir products at work and home and works very well for me. I use it for 3-4 months for Hayfever so change the filter every year. If it's very dusty and you use it all year round then you might need to change it more frequently.

If you have a dehumidifier, check if there is a hepa filter available for it. I have a Bosch air 4000 dehumidifier and have a hepa and activated charcoal filter for it. I think some dehumidifiers even have dedicated air purifier modes where it only uses the fan.

It wasn't exactly cost effective but we use a Dyson fan to purify our air. Really helps with hayfever. We only use it a few months of the year though so we've had it for 4 years and the filter is still at 60% or thereabouts.

I have a couple of Levoit Core300 units at home. I initially bought the basic Core300 for the lounge and 12 months later bought the smart version (Core300S) and moved the old one upstairs. I was sceptical about the accuracy of the air quality monitoring sensor at first but any cooking or lighting candles has a profound effect on the AQM reading. The Core300S also uses about 1/2 the power of the non-S for the same fan speed.

I bought the first one to try and help with pet smells and was that impressed by the reduction in dust and with allergies/hayever that I bought another. It didn't reduce the smells much but I was only running the standard filter. There are 4 different types of filter available for different purposes.

I clean the filters every month or so and replace them after 12 months.

Another votes for the 300S - I have one at home too. When it's time to change the filters I'm always surprised at the amount of dust it has collected. The filters come out significantly heavier than the new one going in too.

+1 for Levoit Core 300S.

I just use the smart features to run a timed routine TBF. But it's nice to check the air quality graphs in the app, and it ties into Home Assistant.

I've got 3x Core 300S and a Vital 100S. They're very good units that capture a ton of crap, along with nice smart app functionality. I also periodically clean the filters every month, however I do need to purchase two new ones at the moment. The official ones are like £30 each, and there's cheaper knock off ones which I haven't looked at yet.

I know Which scored a Dyson and Levoit model at the top. Personally I didn't feel like I could justify the cost, so ended up with an Ikea one - which they'd said were OK as budget options.

Not sure how much difference it will make in the long run - no matter how much I dust, vacuum and empty the tumble dryer filters it feels like there's tonnes of the stuff.

I think half our problem is kids and people coming in and out constantly, with carpets across a lot of downstairs.

I bought a cheaper (but still carbon) filter and I probably won't again. The replacement price seems really steep but this cheap one was very light and slightly more transparent - I suspect they've simply used much less carbon granules than the proper ones. Also the mesh was very slightly less fine, overall slightly less "precision" feel to the product.

I also have an issue with dust/fibres everywhere. The air filter at least tries to keep it down a bit, and since getting a cat I think it helps avoid the house being worse than it could be.

Got a standard Core 300 used as a bedside fan (sits under a table) and it's certainly helped me sleep on high pollen days. Overall the room feels fresher just having the trickle of air circulating. Just a note it's a bit pointless having a purifier and a scented freshener in the same area as the purifier will be removing the scent from the freshener. Should have gone for a smarter fan but on "sleep mode" on a timer it's quiet enough in the room, the faster settings are fine on hotter days if noise is preferred over temperature.

I've got a levoit core 300s does pretty well.
I've tested it with smoking in a room with the toxin filter.
it clears up the smoke pretty fast and smell of tobacco(10-15mins with new filter), but theres like a weird lingering feint burning smell like day old normal smoke still lingering in the background after until you open a door or window.

but it shows their effectiveness and that they do work
obviously people don't buy them because there a smoker, just saying they are effective at removing crap from the air like traffic pollution etc

I wish they captured more dust particles though! theres less dust but it still builds up over time pretty quickly

BTW if you get an S don't vacuum the airholes to the sensor... I did that and the suction must have bent the tiny fan that pulls air into the sensor....
It started making a right racket, I used a dust blower I have for the PC and luckily it went back to normal.

probably just needs a gentle manual blow in the sensor holes to clear dust

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for your suggestions, so I guess the majority of the consensus is on the Levoit one.

Do you guys buy the branded filters or are the cheap stuff available in the forest and bay good enough (have the same efficiency)?
