I hate dusting and I think an air purifier can solve this...am I right? :o

I am pretty sure I have seen people share theirs in the purchased thread however thought I'd start a dedicated thread for this.

Price range would be £100-150 and for use in a bedroom.

Any advice? Brands? Models? Do you love yours? Is it a gimmick?

EDIT: Are they expensive to run? Obvs all energy is going up anyways though...

Ooo online clearance? Which Philips?

Great to hear it has helped so much.

Is it pricey to run?

Mine is the Philips Series 1000i, they say the filters would last 6/12 months. There are 3 filters, 1 washable, 2 needs replacing. To replace them it cost about £40 each, I should have bought two machines tbh lol

Mine has an app that tells me when it needs cleaning/replacing each of the filters. I don't run it every day so I doubt I need to replace it every 6 months.

i got one of these last month
"LEVOIT Smart WiFi Air Purifier for Home, Alexa Enabled H13 HEPA Filter, CADR 170m³/h"

The smart/alexa thing is a bit of a gimmick TBH, but in terms of dust reduction - DEFINITELY. I'm actually going to get a couple more so I can have one per floor. The amount of fluff/dust on the filter when I clean it off every couple of weeks is mindblowing.

I have a Levoit one too, but it's not got any wifi guff. I tend to leave it running on auto most of the time.

If you look at the label it should show its power consumption in Watts and there are umpteen on line calculators to plug in your cost per unit of electricity and see what it costs per hour. That aside, Greta says an unequivocal NO. Use a duster ;)

Argos do philips 1000i for £70 but only if a store near you has them.
they are 200-300+ everywhere else it seems.

it's probably the kind of item that will go down in price rapidly anyway though, they are basically just fans with filters
ikea do one too btw for £55 but they look kinda ugly like a suitcase with a power cable coming from it , although they also now do small table that has one built in but it's £155 called the Starkvind.

Wow that's an awesome price, but I cannot find one anywhere nearby :(

You'd need one with a pretty decent fan / air flow to make a real dent on dust and leave it running.

I have a cheaper brand one which no longer exists so you can't buy the filters so I'd advise buying a brand that has been going a while. It does help with hay fever but its too noisy to leave running all the time so doesn't do much for dust.

Think mine is roughly 35w on mid speed, so if you left it on 24/7 that would be about 23p a day at the new April price cap rate (28p per kwh).

Dust is already attracted to the charged edge of a fan.

just stick a pair of tights over a normal standing fan and it's guaranteed to catch loads of dust.

obviously you'd need something to get the dust airborne in the first place though like a strong gust of wind or something

resellers probably already went around buying them all.

were none by me a few days ago when I checked, some stores near my parents still had hem in stock, but not anymore.

I've got a few of the Ikea ones now, much better aesthetically than most filters, in that it doesn't look like an air purifier - being Ikea, the replacement paper and carbon filters are readily available and reasonably inexpensive. They come with legs but can also be easily wall mounted if you prefer.

My favourite feature is that the low air flow setting is almost completely silent - previous stuff i've had, even on low speeds were quite noisy, so i'd then turn them off, rendering them pointless.

I like them really because Ikea have designed them to blend in rather than a random glossy white box in the corner. It won't match the CADR of something like that Philips at full speed but I value the aesthetic and low noise more.

The real benefit for me is hayfever season - dramatically reduces the effects for me.

Thanks for this, going to get 4 and build a filter box, don't know why i didn't check ikea! I've been after some cheap large filters like they have in the US for HVAC systems to build an air filter system for the garage (have a spare semi industrial wall mount fan i can repurpose and just need some filters to catch wood dust in the air)
