Air purifiers - Share your experience...

I bought a Leovit Core 300 a few months ago as wanted to manage smells/dust/hair and allergies in the room where I keep my rats (not wild ones ;)). True HEPA filter, no UV element.

Even for the dust management alone it's more than worth it. Since running it, there has been a massive difference in the amount of dust collecting on the surfaces in the room and it's defintely made a noticable difference to my allergies too.

It's running all the time and I vary it between low (17w) or medium speeds (21w). Full speed uses about 40w. It has a 'night' mode too but even on low speed it's not intrusive.

Even after a month of running there is a decent amount of dust build up on the pre-filter, dust that would otherwise be floating around in the air.

How is it? How are you finding the noise level?
Noise is fine on low and medium, but high is rather intrusive, in fact very intrusive.
The night mode (which is what i have it set on for the bedroom) is pretty much silent.
So, all in all very good.
I will say that i had a cracking nights sleep last night with it on, but that may have been a couple of bottles of red assisting :p

I hate dusting and I think an air purifier can solve this...am I right? :o

I am pretty sure I have seen people share theirs in the purchased thread however thought I'd start a dedicated thread for this.

Price range would be £100-150 and for use in a bedroom.

Any advice? Brands? Models? Do you love yours? Is it a gimmick?

EDIT: Are they expensive to run? Obvs all energy is going up anyways though...
No meaningful input but I’ve had the exact same thought this last week to consider it an option in reducing dust.
i got one of these last month
"LEVOIT Smart WiFi Air Purifier for Home, Alexa Enabled H13 HEPA Filter, CADR 170m³/h"

The smart/alexa thing is a bit of a gimmick TBH, but in terms of dust reduction - DEFINITELY. I'm actually going to get a couple more so I can have one per floor. The amount of fluff/dust on the filter when I clean it off every couple of weeks is mindblowing.
Argos do philips 1000i for £70 but only if a store near you has them.
they are 200-300+ everywhere else it seems.

it's probably the kind of item that will go down in price rapidly anyway though, they are basically just fans with filters
ikea do one too btw for £55 but they look kinda ugly like a suitcase with a power cable coming from it , although they also now do small table that has one built in but it's £155 called the Starkvind.
Thanks for this, going to get 4 and build a filter box, don't know why i didn't check ikea! I've been after some cheap large filters like they have in the US for HVAC systems to build an air filter system for the garage (have a spare semi industrial wall mount fan i can repurpose and just need some filters to catch wood dust in the air)

I basically live in my home office, 7 days a week, 12-14 hours+ a day.

Its not a particularly large room and there are a ton of electronics in here. The room was an absolute dust magnet and on top of that I also vape so the air quality in this room was appauling.

A few months into the first lockdown my asthma started to become a problem - I would have to use my inhaler twice a day where as previously it was very much a case of use when needed. I decided to purchase one of those Dyson all in one fans / air purifiers and I noticed an improvement in my breathing within days.

I run it whenever I'm in the room, the dust accumulation has dropped off drastically, breathing is good. Fantastic purchase. I realise its not as a robust a dedicated air purifier but for a small room it really does the job. I'm going to add a second one to the bedroom to run as a fan overnight in the summer while I'm sleeping.

I have a Coway, the earlier model of this one which IIRC we paid €160 for. I got it because it has won various "best purifier" awards. It works very well; dunno whether it makes any difference to dust but it has done wonders for my asthma and hayfever. Both of which had got a lot worse since I moved to my current house, a fact I've been putting down to the thatched roof but could be anything. My wife doesn't wake up sneezing every morning either. We have two: one for my office, one for the bedroom. Both get run for 1 or 2 hours a day.

The major problem with it is that you can't set it to come on/off at particular times of day, only start it with a timer to go off after a period of time.

The energy is less expensive than the filters I think. Mine has a max energy use of 68W if you use the (pointless) ionic function and have the fan on max i.e. about the power of a single old fashioned bulb. But, in reality, it nearly always runs on its lowest setting when it's drawing a lot less power.
