Airbag module replacement

My Mk3 Facelift Mondeo airbag light came on yesterday flashing what i think is code 12, so gone done a checkup on code & it says replace airbag module.

Ok so is the airbag module expensive to replace, & do i need to take the car to Ford or could my local garage change it?

I'd question that fault code. Why would the airbag module suddenly need replacing?

I believe so. I would try to clean any contacts around the airbag control module first.

This might have no relevance at all to a Mondeo but the under seat plug came loose in my car and it gave an Airbag fault, just needed pushing back in.

What if you clear the fault codes first just before the MOT?

I had my airbag light come on in my MK5 Golf GTi.

Always disconnect the battery before you go unplugging or plugging wires related to te airbags.

On the Golf there are wire harnesses under the front seats that can get pulled. I connected up VCDS and it said the igniter on the drivers side was faulty. Just unplugged and plugged all the wires and cleared the fault. All is well again and has been for over six months.
