Hello all.

I'm after a bit of advice. I'm going travelling beginning of next year and I'm trying to book my plane tickets.

I've phoned several companies to get quotes for round the world tickets (UK - Bangkok overland Singapore - Melbourne overland Cairns - Fiji - LA - UK)
. I got a couple of quotes around £1500 from flight centre and STA, I then phoned Trailfinders and got a quote for £1301 which I was really chuffed with. I then phoned another couple of companies and they were quoting around £1450. I mentioned the cheap ticket that Trailfinders got (it's a Great Escapade ticket btw) and they said that the price wasn't possible because the mileage I would cover would exceed the normal allowance so I would have to pay additional taxes (approximately £140).

Now I'm worried that the quote Trailfinders has given me is wrong, especially as its cheaper than all the other quotes and by around £140 like this woman said.

Thing is Trailfinders made me a full itinarary included all airline costs, fees, taxes etc and have reserved the ticket for a week so I have until then to pay the £1301. So if I paid the ticket now, would they be allowed to charge me for the additional mileage at a later date or can they not do that as they priced it up wrong in the first place?

I'm tempted to phone up and ask but if I do they may realise their mistake (if there is one) and put the price up. I'm kind of tempted to leave it as even if they do add £140 or whatever it is it will still be cheaper than the other quotes by a few quid.

What would you do?
Thanks.

I have a few friends who have used them before, and I have never heard that they was hidden fees when travelling. AFAIK its all included.

Give them a call, and just ask a few questions about what you are concerned about, i.e all tax included in ticket etc.

Normally aswell, they should be a section on their website which will state what is included in the price/tickets.

Thanks mullet. All the prices and flights are clearly stated and everything is shown clearly. I'm not worried about hidden costs as such, its more the fact that I think she may have made a mistake in her quote which we may get lumped with after we've paid once they realise their mistake (if of course there is a mistake, they might just be really cheap!).

with oil prices only going in one direction I would not be suprised if the hit you with a surcharge or two between now and next year
ps
how long are you taking going from Melbourne to Cairns overland?

I haven't checked the small print properly but I think if you pay the full amount now, the tickets and taxes cant go up between now and when you travel. It does say something about government taxes being an exception though I think.

And will be travlling in Oz for around 3 months.

You could also give them a call back and pretend you are looking for a quote (even though you have already got one) and see if they turn out the same)

if they do, then it must not be a mistake but more of a good deal.

Good Luck :0)

I did Cairns to Sydney overland, in about 4 weeks round the east & south coast, by various coaches and Greyhound buses. It's not easy on your behind.

The worst bit is between Cairns and Brisbane.

I also did Alice Springs to Cairns, which was much more painful, but that's another story.
