Airmiles points - best/easiest way to collect them?

BA Amex premium is a massive APR. Guess it adds good concept to paying off your card monthly xD

They have to factor the £150 annual fee into the APR calculation, which is why it is so high. The interest rate on purchases is a more typical 19.9%, but I still would suggest paying it off in full - there are much cheaper options if you want to borrow.

I've got a Brussels Airlines/Lufthansa Amex and Mastercard.

Other than flying full-flex economy and business class, it's by far the quickest and easiest way to accrue air miles.

Amex APR is extremely high, but then there is no limit.
Amex is a card which you need to pay off every month!

I doubt many people using airmiles fly economy....
This. Completely pointless really as they screw you on the taxes.
Although Lufthansa FlySmart means half the number of miles if you book a fortnight before the departure date.

you still pay taxes+fees which are around 60-70% of the ticket price.

slightly misleading. You pay taxes and the fuel surcharge, which is a decent chunk, but not sure your percentage is correct - it may be compared to the very cheapest tickets available, but we all know airline ticket prices rise the closer you get to the departure date...

I believe the best use of airmiles is to use the miles to upgrade. So you would end up having to buy a normal economy ticket, and you can use your miles to upgrade you to business class (or for BA, it's super cheap to fly shorthaul with airmiles, I think it's around 9000 miles + £30 flat charge for a return. Not bad when most amex cards come with a 20,000 mile sign-up bonus!)

Ba saver tickets are pure win for airmiles redemptions in Europe...

Got 2 returns to Turkey and 2 open jaw tix to Russia for 80,000 miles plus nominal tax charge. Bargain!

Also enough miles left over to use my companion voucher to get 2 Business returns to Tokyo for 120,000 miles plus £1,270 all this year Bargain for 3 amazing holidays!

A lot of airlines no longer allow mileage upgrades on their cheap fare classes and as a result this is becoming harder and harder to do.

However, you can find very good miles offers in business long haul now and again.

Depending on how much you fly, it can be cheaper to pay for short-haul flights!

Depends where you go and how you get there.

We're flying business class to Barbados with BA in a couple of months. We have to pay £500 tax on a £2,500 ticket - so about 20% of the normal price.

best way - get a job as a consultant... start collecting air miles.... get several free flights a year as a result...

Why? Economy in Europe is 9,000 miles versus 18,000, both are about £25-30 in taxes. Business class is pointless on these flights.

I have a BA premium plus. BA flights get you 3 points per £ if you pay with this card too

Waste of points in my opinion, i prefer to use them to buy valuable flights which you would normally have to think twice about booking, such as transatlantic Firsts or Club Worlds...

Do people really pay to fly business out of their own pocket though,? Miles or cash.

I see it probably more effective as you say to use for longer trips. I get most my miles free so I just see them as a bonus for European trips that I can save £150-£200 a ticket on for each of us

I have no interest in first class either

Yes, every year sometimes more than once per year when we do long haul holidays.

Everyone i know collecting points uses them for (IMHO) what they are intended for, to fund tickets which are otherwise quite expensive.
