I'm very tempted to get an Apple TV 2 for the mirroring features of iOS5.

My questions are:

1) Will I be able to view web video that plays in Mobile Safari on an iPad 2 via airplay mirroring on a TV or do you have to use apps such as the YouTube one? The sites I use are mostly YouTube, Dailymotion, and Vimeo. I'm guessing that once you launch the video full screen it'll be airplay compatible?

2) I doubt it but is there a way to mirror video only whilst keeping the sound coming from your iPad/iPhone? This is a feature I'd love to see but haven't seen it mentioned anywhere.

Cheers.

1: Mirroring is exactly what it says - anything you can view on your iPad 2/iPhone 4S can be displayed on your TV.

2: Mirroring sends the sound to the TV

Headrat - mirroring also works on the iPhone 4S

Nice thanks for that. I was hoping to be able to plonk some headphones on the iPad 2 and watch the video on TV. I guess I'll just have to plug them into the TV via an extension cable.

False - the iPhone will only use airplay when playing video through certain applications. It does not support Mirroring - this feature is only reserved for the iPad 2.

Go check your facts on the iPhone 4S -It supports mirroring; I know because I have one ;)

Plus you could also get an app such as Air Video Server. Install on Mac or PC and it turns said items into a server. You can then install the app on your iPad and watch any of your content either on the iPad or mirror straight to large screen TV through ATV2. The material including flash videos are converted on the fly. Works great without any stutter etc.
