All,
Been using my AEBS in conjunction with a Draytek Vigor 120 modem happily for the past few months, up until last night...

I upgraded the firmware to 7.6.3 and immediately I seemed to lose my Internet connection (PPPoE), which would come and go as it pleases.

Thinking it is firmware related I've dropped it to 7.6.1 and now 7.6.0 and I still seem to be having random problems where it disconnects itself from the configured Internet connection.

Looking at the help it would imply its an ISP issue, which I doubt as the issues were triggered immediately following a firmware update and reboot.

Anybody else have similar problems, or have any suggestions?

Short of ringing. Sky, who are likely to tell me there isn't an issue their end, and tell me off for hacking the supplied router to get the service user name and password so I could use my own choice of modem, I'm short of ideas.

Cheers

I had the exact same problem and it turned out to be a faulty Draytek. I had constant disconnections and after trying lots of different things including getting my ISP involved (who were very helpful) it was a faulty 120. At first I thought it was the Apple but that was fine.

It was the same for me, did a firmware update and a few days later it all started going wrong!

well for some reason I can't even get to my modem admin page, despite being connected via ethernet. I am connected to the internet though, by setting up a PPoE profile on the Mac, essentially using the same config as the AEBS does.

I'm just doing a bit of a test to see if its the modem playing up, or my ISP somehow dropping the connection every x minutes. I do believe extracting the user name and password from a Sky supplied device breaks the T&C's of the contract though... but its essential if you want to use your own modem.

You won't get to the admin page of those Draytek's if they have an active WAN connection. Unplug the ADSL and the admin page should come up.

Ah, good tip. So, basically unplug the ADSL line from the wall and try again whilst connected via ethernet. Will give it a go...

Looking online, there seems to be at least a couple of threads on the Apple support pages with the exact same issues and hardware combination... I'm going to try configure the Draytek to handle the PPPoE connection with the ISP, and the AEBS do the wireless routing. Presume this is doable?

Hmm still can't access it on 192.168.2.1 or 1.0 or anything else! Mac is connected via Ethernet to modem, with rj45 unplugged as above? Any thoughts?

Hmm, can't think of a reason why it wouldn't come up on that port. Have you tried resetting it?

You might just be unlucky and Sky have changed something around and you'll need to use their piece of junk router.

OK, managed to connect OK by assigning a static IP to my Macbook and setting the router address to 192.168.2.1, I can now access the admin page.

interestingly, if I connect direct via PPPoE from the Mac, the internet works fine, but my Airport doesn't seem to be able to connect to the ISP if I connect through that.

Well, after a hard reset of the AEBS, setting it up fresh it seems to work. I think somehow the FW upgrade process messed up the connectivity between itself and the modem.

Hmm, its better than it was. But it's still dropping its connection every couple of hours or so, either self recovering within a minute or so, or seems to require powering the AEBS off/on.... which makes me think potentially the AEBS is faulty... ?!
