Hi,

Im about to visit a friend abroad and planning to get my external hard-drive with me. I was however told this could be a problem due to the security at the airport which is something Im not entirely sure about. I mean I know that the security issue has taken some silly levels of what can and cannot be carried on a flight but is this true about the hard-drive or its an exaggeration?

If you're honest I really don't see the problem. Keep it near the top of whatever you're carrying it in so that if they ask to see it, you can show it to them.

Lying, being vague, or refusing will just cause issues.

I'm not sure if they'll let you carry it on board though. :)

They may ask you to seperate it like they do laptops but other than that I doubt very much there will be any problems. :)

I've been asked to turn laptops or mp3 players on before to prove they are 'real', so maybe that could be an issue with an external drive.
