AITA - Decorator Issues

Yes bits of paint comes off.
I think you may out of luck here legally, and be dependent on good will...If the paint said wipeable, and the professional uses it often, then I'm not sure on what basis the product could be "faulty". Maybe your expectations were too great for washable walls in every room (like I said, I would expect it in kitchens/bathrooms but not every room including ceilings).

I'd take plenty of videos of gentle cleaning and also photos of the before/after and the general location in detail..

Then pop along to your local Johnstones decorators centre and show them, you'll very quickly get a yes/no if its' not to expectation..

When we did our extension I went to the decorators centre on advice of the builder and we used the same paint (Covaplus) simply as it was cheap (£26 for 5L) and plenty of reviews said it was slightly better than Dulux/Crown standard offerings.. It's gone on fine, but isn't that wipeable, although it doesn't come off, it just leaves a streaky finish..

One thing I would check is water droplets can dissolve the paint if left sat on top.. or weaken it.. I've seen people drop tea cups on teh floor getting hot tea on the walls and tried to wipe leading to the paint coming off due to too much pressure..

As I said, a local Johnstones decorator centre would be a good start to show them, discuss and they'll help set expectations.. Also, Covaplus is considered 'standard' entry level stuff, it is listed as light use and I think they aren't lying.. I priced up Endura at the time, they wanted £78 for 5L and that was with discount, the retail was over £100 for 5L! but that apprantly is very hardy..

Another annoyance with the Covaplus is I tried to touch up some scuffs from moving things around and it looked rubbish, and doing a google search showed this is another 'feature' of the paint..

Sorry I can't help too much, but I would honestly start by going to a decorators centre, they are surprisingly helpful IME.

Would seem the Covaplus whilst marketed as wipeable is on par with other brands standard vinyl matt paints and certainly not durable or scrubable. Would seem it has been mis-marketed to me with poor product selection.

Does seem to be poor marketting.

Arguably though ALL paint is wipeable.....just what you get following it changes!

Dont know if its just me but I cant see it saying anything about being wipeable ....

On the summary of their products it says wipeable but not on the product page, could be a website error (in either direction!)

poor application/prep by the professional. faulty batch of product. numerous reasons why it's not 'working' but none of those are anything to do with the op. if he'd selected to paint himself, then maybe but as it is he let the pro pick it so it's on the pro to make sure the product works.

Okay but then we are conflating symptoms with root cause.

not really conflating anything dude, symptoms/root cause are nowt to do with the op. he paid a professional to do a job, they've not done that job whether down to poor/wrong product or poor/wrong preparation or application or whatever, again none of those things are anything to do with the op so i'd be very surprised if the op was out of luck legally.

If the prep is wrong the whole job needs ripping out. If the paint is not to the Ops taste/specification then it needs a repaint. It isn't difficult (to reach my view).
