Akasa Eclipse or Antec P180?

i love the akasa everything is just sooo accessible. never had a problem with anything.

i did notice a slight rattle but tightened up the thumbscrews and hey presto it was gone. + i removed the hdd trays and use a floppy bay too house my hdd so that could make it a bit quiter (rattlewise)

PLASTIC FRONT AHHHH! :P.

Antec P180, silent, great cooling and no nonense.

The P180 has a plastic front as well  (do not take offence at the rolleyes, they are there for comical effect) <Need a disclaimer now people have declared war on them :p

You can tell who has seen/owned the cases and who jumps on bandwagons sometimes :P

p180 imo has too many issues, both short and longterm to be even considered for a high ish end case.

LoL whats all this talk of the Eclipse being ugly  , the P180 looks like a fridge imo. Ive not owned a P180 but i do own an Eclipse and its a decent case, loads of room, well made, exelent cooling, great for cable management and has loads of added features for the price.

My mate went for thr P180.He has seen my eclipse loads of times and he called to tell me he ordered the P180 last friday.

I went around to have a look this weekend and TBH it looks very dull with the door shut.Just like a standard case IMO.Also Its cramped inside.

Few plus points: I like the hard drive bay mountings on rubber washers you cant hear the drives at all when seeking.

and thats about it.

With everything in and all the cables it nowhere cools like the eclipse. The eclipse is wide and has great room between mobo and hardrives and loads of space down one side for putting all the cables.I will post a pic tomo. :)

I think he is regretting his decision but he won't admit it!

Hi,

I got the Akaska 62 based basically onm the great reviews on it, and, as my first built, i was more than happy with hwo much i was able to strip it and put everything together,( although i totoally admit have no other practise with other cases lol), i too if im being totoally honest was alittle dissappointed with the overly plastic front, but i would be stupid to put the entire case down just for that.

Colling wise my P4 3.2 (overclocked), has never gone above 32o on a full load (which i was told os very good), the systme temp has always stayed well in the green too.

Its a hell of a lot bigger than i imgined though lol!

He will come to the dark side eventually ;)

I just got a scythe silentbox, knocked off my quiet seagate 300gigger. Its weird taking it out I cant stand that disc access noise too loud lol

You can pick up plenty silent boxes/silent mountings for £10-30 so in effect making the Akasa62 the best overall case on the market today

After purchasing one myself recently (along with the special vented side panel) I'd like to add my name to the ever growing list of Eclipsites. It is the easiest case I have EVER worked with, more so than the Silvertsone TJ03, TJ07, Antec Sonata, Coolermaster ATC-201, Wavemaster and even the legendary ATC-110.

Furthermore, only the 110 comes ANYWHERE NEAR it in terms of cooling performance. I'm running 2 7800gtx KOs and it is the only case that has been able to keep them under 80 degrees load, comfortably! Infact, moving to it from a TJ03 knocked an average of 15 degrees off my video cards and 12 degrees off my CPU.

It is a case that has been designed by people with common sense. Almost all cables get where they need to be with minimal bending/twisting/ stretching/snagging etc. Why don't more cases have a detachable top, or that little bit of extra width, or an optional vented side panel. I'll tell you why, because many of today's designers appear far too concerned over shallow gimmickry and pointless "ground breaking" concepts as opposed to considering what today's computers/system builders/enthusiasts actually require. Owning a case like the Eclipse serves to highlight just how much money and time some of these companies are wasting....by simply not thinking things through.

Oi HighlandeR, you nicked my picture!! In future could you not repost other peoples images and up thier bandwidth usage plz? Host it yourself...

Anyway back on topic, the way I see it is this...

Akasa Eclipse, has plenty of room is full of space, great cooling and modding potential.

Antec P180, is large, compartmentalised, quiet. Cable routing is a bitch!

Both are pretty ugly, I'd go Eclipse personally just for the great "airy" layout. As clever as the P180 is, the compartments just overcomplicate the build...

JCBeastie

P.S. I don't like doors...

I had to decide between the 2 back in september, and for the price the eclipse was cheaper, i don't think its that ugly... i rather have to insert CD/DVD without opening the front door than opening it and closing it all the time and eventually breaking? i bought mine with a window side panel and the quality of the case is great, especially the shiny mirror like surfaces. lots of space indeed... every part comes apart individually which is great, easy to get to places inside the case.

lol I got a cheapo ATX case before with a door... lasted minutes.

I can think of nothing more annoying then going to press eject and a door in the way? no way indeed..

The new Akasa although a much better front its ruined with a door in the way...

Yeap thats one of the good things about the Akasa ive removed the hdd bays and floppy bays(although u can do this with P180 I belive) it just gives it better airflow/space to work with :)
