If there's anyone else out there with one of these caddies:

I thought they were supposed to power the HD down if no activity for 10 minutes!

Well I've got a SpinPoint F3 in mine (arrived today) and it sounds like it's spinning all the time. Just slightly worried that if it runs all the time, that come the summer (should we ever have one up here in Scotland!!!) that it might get a little toasty in the caddy (what with no ventilation holes etc.). Though it looks to be running at around 29/30C at the moment, which I suppose isn't anything to worry about.

Is your OS set to spin drives down? If you're using eSATA then that's what will control it.

Temps will be fine.

I had wondered about that. As I've got the power options to "never" spin down. As my boot drive is an OZC Vertex 2E and that's one of the things that OCZ recommend. The same as "never sleep".

I'm wondering if the power down after 10 minutes that they mention on Akasa's WEB site is if you connect via the USB?

It would be. Look into OCZ's recommendation to see if it's necessary. That said drives live longer in theory if they don't spin up and down too often as it's the action that wears them the most.
