Akasa PWM Fan Splitter Cable

Purchased one of these from OcUK, connected it up as instructed, but it would seem the headers on the splitter do not allow you to connect your 4-pin PWN fans.

The spacing for the 4 pin header on the splitter is not the same as the fans:

The connector on the fan is spaced at the end meaning you have to cram the fan connector into the splitter connector.

Even when connected, I cannot control the fan speed from the motherboard, they just run at full whack.

Any suggestions?

I also bought that Akasa thing and had the same problems.

In the end I got a Gelid PWM Y cable (OcUK don't stock them - Google it) which works for two 80mm Noiseblockers.
 
Did you get that to power 2 or 3 fans? I have 2 noiseblockers in the windowed section and a cheap PWM Antec above the PSU.
 
PWM fans normally come with the special 3/4 pin connector that is 4 pin but has the polarising rib on position 3. It should be simple enough to remove the little bit of plastic off the splitter to make the connector fit.

As for controlling of the fan speed it's either that your motherboard is not set correctly to control PWM fans or there is an issue with the splitter. I seem to recall a thread where there was a faulty connection on the PWM line coming from the motherboard connector so basically nothing was getting through to any of the other connectors.

I used one of these and it worked very well. You connect the Motherboard 2Pin to the 4 pin on your board. You then have loads what look like 4pin connections there not. Find the one that has the 4pin and plug you first fan into this. you can then plug any fans into the 4pin/3pin connectors.

I could then control all the fans from this on cable.

Assuming your PWM fans are normal 4-pin plug it should work as Shankly said.

I prefer the Gelid PWM splitters. Better quality.

I appreciate your help, but the AKASA one is does not support the 4 pin header there the ridge is in the 4th pin position. The gap is at pin 1 and pin 3 only!

I've ordered a Gelid Y splitter from a competitor as the Antec fan in the rear section of my case has a PWM connector allowing me to daisy chain.

I'm not disputing that the molex PWM connectors do not work, but if you look at the image I've attached, you'll see what I mean. This one is not fit for purpose.

It might be different but I bought a load of PWM case fans recently thinking I could connect them to the 4pin fan headers on an Asus Maximus VI Gene, but it turns out the chassis 4pin fan headers aren't actually PWM. They can be voltage controlled but then you can't use any PWM splitter which takes power from the PSU as the PWM control won't work and they just run at full speed. In the end, I used 2 Y-splitters to connect 3 case fans to a single mobo header, and can voltage control them like that.

Would tell you where to go to look at reviews but this seems to be the only site where you cannon mention other sites.

Basically from what I have read the build quality is crap and the things are way too loose and some of the pins come out of the end socket and have to be pushed back in.

Stuff like that.
 
To the best of my knowledge only the CPU fan and CPU opt headers are PWM. This applies on all motherboards.

I have built / coached the build of may systems with all PWM fans (case and coolers) controlled by PWM signal using PSU powered splitters and hubs. Every one of them is very happy with their systems.

Some even use VGA PWM signal to control case airflow to VGA.

Tealc makes PWM to analog (CPU & GPU) adapters for members who want to use PWM signal to control 3-pin fans.
