Alan Wake appreciation thread

Can't see myself playing a game that has an achievement that requires you to watch an advert to be honest.

It's part of the game if I remember correctly, it doesn't just show up on the screen mid-game.

And really, if one achievement is enough to put you off, you were probably never going to bother with the game anyway.

Sorry but LOL at not playing a game because it has an advert on a TV for an achievement... watching it isn't 'required' to progress, you don't even have to turn it on!

On a more positive note, I completed it this week and thought it was a brilliant game which was brilliantly executed. I'll revisit it in the future to complete it on nightmare mode.

It's not about the achievement, it's more about the advert. That's not something I'm going to accept as becoming any part of games I play.

You're probably referring to the 'Couch Potato' achievement where you watch all of the TV shows that are dotted throughout the games. They aren't adverts at all, but (if I remember correctly) b-movie like horror shows.

I bought this ages ago for £20 and I still haven't played it yet due to my massive backlog of games. Really looking forward to it though! Both DLC's at the ready...

It's the same kind of stuff that they did throughout Max Payne.

I haven't read the threas as I just got it for tenner. I'm on Episode 2 and am largely enjoying it, but it's seems to be the same thing around every corner.

Am I missing something? Glad I didn't spend £35 on this, a tenner is worth a couple of hours entertainment, even if it ends up collecting dust on my shelf.

Well i thought I would bump this, Considering I've only just started to play it...

Its good, It's very eerie, and my nerves are pretty shot after a session on it last night. I love scary games, After Resident evil took a turn towards the more action packed gaming, Silent Hill was my only saving grace.(Dead Space is brilliant too, but Didnt rate the sequel)

So now after playing Alan Wake I can say for definite I can add another Survival Horror game to my list.

I mean the way I play the game is probably why I find it so damn scary, I explore. I run away from the lights, into the darkness looking for extra items. And its while doing this that I can tell you now, It's horrible. haha. I can imagine people who stay with in the lights, or run from 1 light to another all game, will find the game somewhat less scary.

but It gets a thumbs up from me.

the more you play the more you understand how the encounters work and ultimately the less scary it becomes, this would be a problem if it where not such a good action game at the same time, loved it to be honest.

Thread bumpage alert!!!

Just finished playing through this (been playing the odd hour here and there for the last month), really really enjoyed it.

Great story and so well presented, even the missus has been happy to watch me playing this from start to finish.

Big thumbs up from me, now onto the DLC.

Nice one dude LOL
I made the mistake of finishing alan wake by myself and thought it was great.
Shortly after my misses wanted to watch me play something so we chose the last "alone in the dark" game they did.................Absolutley awfull that game is i lasted a hour before i turned it off and that was including restarting it because it crashed my 360 within 15 mins :(
