Alan Wake appreciation thread

I really enjoyed the game which I didn't think I would as it seemed to get a little bit of a slating in the press.

Like many, I found it quite easy, even when playing on hard, Nightmare mode from the get go would have been better.

I've downloaded The Signal but not had chance to play it yet unfortunately.

Most of all I really enjoyed the format of how the game progressed, like a TV show. I've never played anything quite like it. I'd definitely recommend the game to anyone thinking of picking it up.

Just ordered this game online. Quite excited about playing it! Had been looking forward to it for a while but then my 360 died courtesy of resident evil 5 giving a 1080p option... :D Shame they canned the PC version.

I loved this game.

I'm currently working through it on Nightmare and after that I'll take a crack at the DLC.

The environment is great and I enjoyed the story. The combat does get a bit repetitive but the cinematic quality of the game adds to the tense atmosphere.

ive just ordered this new for £16 , ive been seeing it mentioned a bit in topics such as "what games should i get for my 360"

it seems to get quite good reviews now but at first it was a mixed bag , im going to have to dust of my 360 for this:)

I loved Alan Wake, though the main problem was that it just took too long to get going. Chapters 4, 5 and 6 were exceptional, if the first 3 chapters were as good it would have been a definite contender for GOTY IMO.

Thanks for that. I played it a few weeks back, but have only done the first two chapters as it hasn't really grabbed me. I think I will go back to it now and give it another shot.

I did enjoy it when I had it, but it got a little too 'samey' after a while.

Story was good and the story telling excellent, but compared to the experience I had with Heavy Rain, Alan Wake is a definite second to that.

It’s well worth a purchase though, a solid game to be enjoyed :)

Yeah pretty much sums up my feeling its a game worth playing IMO, prob more of a rental for me. I wonder what would have been if they was allowed to keep to the original concept for the PC.

It was meant to be a more open world game, where you could basically explore the woods, town, etc. as you liked.

Hence the big map showing all the different areas.

When they refocused it to consoles they changed it to the more traditional set pieces, and made it into the 'tv' format instead.

I wasn't sure I would like it after reading a lot of posts on here about it, but I managed to find a bargain so decided to give it a go.

Absolutely loved it.

So polished and a great atmosphere. Also one of the best looking games i've seen.

Thread bumpage alert!!!

Just finished playing through this (been playing the odd hour here and there for the last month), really really enjoyed it.

Great story and so well presented, even the missus has been happy to watch me playing this from start to finish.

Big thumbs up from me, now onto the DLC.

Damn you all to hell... And here was me thinking I would have a quite weekend away from the 360... Now I want to play this! Started it on the hardest setting again a while back, got side tracked...

Can't see myself playing a game that has an achievement that requires you to watch an advert to be honest.

It's better than all the retarded achievements for collecting 100 arbitrary objects.

Alan Wake goes for coffee thermoses. WHY? It's not like they have any in game benefit. They were obviously just 100 points short or whatever so dotted them around the levels for you to find in between hunting for book pages and whatever else.

If you play games that have no stupid/tiresome achievemenrts youd be severely limiting your choice of games!

I enjoyed playing through this a while back. The DLC is quite cool. Think the second one was better than the first but that was free with the game so cant complain :)
