Alan Wake is Vista only

:( im not ready for vista yet but i was so looking forward to this game. Hopefully the reviews will be great and i will have no choice but to upgrade ;)

well this wasnt exactly suprising.
By the time its out vista will be a more feasable solution anyway.
Cant blame microsoft, they just want to sell vista, and im sure its easier porting between vista+360 than XP+360.
Not my type of game either to be honest, looked pretty though, but i can always look out the window, or heaven forbid just walk outside.

I've not had any performance issues with Vista either, you're not the only one!

so certain games stuttering randomly is nothing to complain about?

*glove slap*

The games that have issues are being either patched or updated with new gfx card drivers to resolve those issues (games like LOST PLANET for example) - but to begin with those issues are largely down to ***** development (Like lost planet for example and Halo 2 (LOL))

It's not Vista at fault but the game itself or the drivers.

MLERGH.

No swearing, you've been here long enough to know.

its still quite a way off, you never know you might be more ready to upgrade when its out.

? he's right, there is nothing wrong with "vista" with regards to gaming and severe drop in performance. Almost every issue in this area has been related to drivers from sound card or graphics card manufacturers and is steadily improving every month or so.

Correct, games run terribly on my system in vista compared to XP, whereas my flatmates computer which is near identical (bar his cpu being slightly inferior), runs at exactly the same capacity in vista as it did in XP. The big difference? Hes got a x1800, i've got a 7800GTX... apparently nvidia drivers suck at present.

Thats the point that many just dont understand & just blame vista.

holy ******g ch**t,
Are you even reading my posts before you quote them??

I will try again, i am not blaming vista for anything!
All i said was at presant(sp?) in my opinion it is not viable for a lot of hardware configurations to use it as a gaming platform as it is inferior to XP
hence the watch analogy

I havent put the blame on any individual components throughout, (well maybe the inital post which was poorly worded, which i corrected in subsequent posts)
Why is that so difficult to absorb?

Frankly by the time Alan Wake does come out I'll probably have a new PC and all remaining problems (if there are still any) with Vista and drivers will be ironed out.

yer what i said, basically by the time this game is out anyways vista will be a more feasable solution, not blaming vista, just pointing out it currently doesnt add up to pay all that money for an O/S that will have a degraded performance to that of XP for a hefty amount of users.

My thoughts basically.

I had Vista installed months ago and it was horrid idd, but I've recently installed it again and i can play every game no problem so I've deleted my XP partition and running Vista solely as a Gaming OS and having no trouble.

Also for me, i still feel XP might be a bit quicker as in booting times etc but i hardly notice a different in games.

Am i the only person around here that installed vista on the day it was released on a brand new system (c2d etc) and havent had one single issue?
Nope. Been running Vista from day one on a 7900GTX and the only issue I had was San Andreas acting up, and that was because it was running on a cfg from my old PC setup. A quick .set delete and it was up and running.

For those with 8800's and troublesome gaming on Vista, I'm not surprised tbh. I read and hear about constant gaming probs with the 8800 and thats why I avoided the overrated thing and opted for the 7900. No way am I touching that thing ever, I'd rather wait for the 2nd gen dx10 cards.

Exactly as well. Plus the purple shirt guys are really pushing PC's and Laptop's with Vista atm, so I for one can see why Remedy would want to do this. Focusing on Vista should (by the time the game appears) be a good choice and pay off for them. I'm sure drivers and service packs will fix many many issues by then also, like you say. One more thing, if people are still on XP when it does comes out, I think after seeing some screenshots, etc, they'd quickly go buy Vista. ;)

I'm another day one adopter of Vista and readily admit I had issues getting games up and running initally but at no time did I point the finger at MS. The hardware manufacturers had months to get drivers developed for Vista, I was running a beta almost a year before the actual final product was released so it makes me wonder what the hell ATI, Nvidia and Creative were doing in the intervening period (and they will have had more advance warning of what to expect well befoer the betas even arrived!).

I can't be doing with fanboyism but on the other side of the coin I can't be doing with the 'anti' fanboys either.

Another early adopter who no longer has ANY problems with the os.....

Where do you hear about these 8800 gaming problems? :O
Overrated? Are we talking about the same cards?
The problems aint down to the hardware =/ Stonking card..
Does anyone remember when XP came out? It took ages for me to finally ditch 2k and move to it, after it had had numerous patches and updates.

Apparently the Windows Vista Compatability package (released yesterday) solves a multitude of problems with vista and 8800s. It's solved every niggle i had with Vista - not allowing me to use two TV tuners at once and DVD playback occasionally crashing in Media Center... oh and my framerates have increased marginally, but then the most recent graphics drivers increased my FPS to near windows XP levels already anyway.

[EDIT] This package:

Its not on windows update yet, so you will need to download it manually
