Alan Wake Misconception?

It's only a DX9 title isn't it? I think it looks great and more importantly runs really well.
This tbh, I'd only heard of Alan Wake being a sandbox game and thats the only aspect that dissapointed me, the linearity.

I actually hadn't heard of it being a graphics powerhouse so I went in with no expectations and I think it looks very nice!

Agreed :) My only gripe is that I was expecting a Twin Peaks like town to mooch about in during the day and have to hide at night - both as I saw fit. Instead it's classic a to b gameplay. Otherwise it's a decent game and looks much nicer than I expected it would.

I remember seeing Alan Wake in I think it was PC Gamer mag years ago and thinking "wow this is gonna be awesome".... Then it switched to console and after watching the E3 demo and seeing him get hit by a giant water tower rolling down the road and not even flinching I never even bothered looking at it again.

Flippin' heck, ammo is quite tight in some parts, and I'm finding the stashes as well... Lover's Peak was a flippin' nightmare!

Wasn't this the very first game shown as a tech demo back in 2006 indicating what would the next gen HD gaming be like being a tremendous stepup from the era of PS2/Xbox etc. I think this game was shown just before the launch of PS3.

Loved the game tbh its a kind of psychological thriller. One of the best I have played in a while. Looking forward to the second one.

It was supposed to showcase direct x 10 and release around the same time as windows Vista until it was moved to xbox 360.

Just noticed my Alan Wake American Nightmare is downloading a 1GB+ update, all it says in release notes on Steam news page is something about added text localizations for czech, Russian, Hungarian & Polish! Seems like a big update size for just that.

Alan wake was going to be a technical leap due to the lighting/shadows and scope. The game was going to look great, but it wasn't the main Point. Also the fighting with torches and light was always the original concept. Only thing I think changed was the day time village interactions. They seem very watered down to what was originally promised. Also is Crysis really still the go to game when talking about graphics?
