What do you people think about having one of these fitted?
Ive just bought a Triumph Speedmaster, and the dealer said he would fit a Datatool system 4 red, for free.
My bike is kept outside under cover, and i must admit that now im a bit of a fair weather rider, im just a bit concerned about battery drain, although the unit does have a winter mode, where you can cut out the alarm and just have it immobilised.
Does an immobiliser drain the battery?

Had a Datatool 'Red' fitted to my first bike. Haven't fitted another alarm to any of my subsequent bikes ;)

Alarmed disc lock is a cheaper option and won't drain the battery :)

I had a Xena XX6 Yellow for a while but it didn't seem to like the winter and kept going off randomly. The last time I saw it was in pieces, as I became enraged at not being able to silence it and launched it into the floor at high velocity... Aaanywho, I've since bought a Kabrus XL802, which has been excellent so far and is supposed to be able to cope with the cold/damp weather. Also, it doesn't go off every time someone farts near it :D Fits nicely under the seat when not in use too, in the nice little pouch it comes with.

Yeah i have one of those to but a different brand.
I guess ill just stick it on winter mode, with the disc lock fitted outside my flat, its a good area and in a little gated community tucked away.
The alarm immobiliser will be handy though, when i take it out and park up.
Theres a lot of wrong uns about you know;)

chain it to something solid, its easy to pick them up and sling em in the back of a transit van, alarm or no alarm

there fine aslong as they dont go wrong, they can be a real pain to sort out

Yeah i heard that about the datatool 3 system, but the 4 is supposed to be pretty good.
It has a few options like the winter, and 3 different sleep modes ,and will only immobilise if you dont activate it with the key.

Good idea but i live in a flat with just a parking space out front, nothing to chain it too.
Yeah i know waht you mean about the back of the van jobbie, but all alarms etc, are really just a deterrant, still better to have one i guess?

yeah have one, surely theres some railings or buy a cheap cement in ground anchor? and chain it to that,id trust no one these days, chain it to metal posts when out n about too

A none garaged bike in my area will be gone in 2 days max alarm or not.

2 lads pick up and sling into a padded van the alarm can go on until the battery goes flat 30 second job.

I've got a Meta alarm and immobiliser fitted, one of these:

Never had a problem with it. The alarm part goes into sleep mode after 10 days of inactivity to try and save the battery. I've started it up after a month of sitting on the drive with no issues. It will still go flat if left for a long time, but I take the battery out over winter anyway, so I don't really see it as an issue.

No idea if it's ever actually stopped a thief, but it's not been stolen yet. Save about £30 a year on the insurance too, although that might be higher on a more desirable bike.

I've got a Datatool Red on mine and I've never had a problem with it. I'll also add that I only got the bike this year and I've just got to hope that I have no problems over the winter.

Ive had a good think about it and rung the dealer to take it off before i pick it up tomorrow, ( there going to love me)been on a few forums and it seems more trouble than its worth

I personally haven't got an alarm on my CBR, I've got a 5kg Daddy Lock under the seat that I basically tie the bike to something solid whenever I leave it and if It's in a car park, I chuck it around the front wheel and frame. To protect your bike the best if it's outside I'd...

  • Use a good quality chain (£70 upwards nothing cheap and nasty) and tie it around either your front or rear wheel and ensure it goes around the frame somewhere, this will stop someone rolling off with the bike.
  • Always put the full lock on, that way once again they can't roll the bike away as the front wheel is locked.
  • Use a disc alarm for movement, at least a minimum the alarm on it will go off and it "may" put anyone carrying the bike off...
Apart from that, not a lot you can do really if they realllyyyy want the bike they'll take it alarms and all...
