been looking into getting a toad text alert device to integrate into my toad ai606 alarm.

one thing that has had me thinking is, when im out in town shopping or away from my car how the hell do i know if its been broken into.

one of these text alert systems would be a piece of mind.

are they worth it? i got some spare cash i would like to spend on the car (clio 172) so thought extra security cant be bad thing surely?

Waste of money, if its broken into its broken into.

You rushing back dosent stop it happening.

No but it means your car will look like it's been broken into (broken glass) until you find out. My gf left her car near her house for one week whilst she went away. In the week the window broke and the alarm went off. She didn't know it got broken into until she came back. Granted she couldn't do anything whilst she was away had she recieved a text message, but she could have notified me. I had a spare key.

Hrm, you rushing back could interrupt a potential thief.

Whether you consider that to be a good or a bad think will completely depend on you.

If my car was in a public car park then I'd prefer to know it's been broken into than having to wait when you get back.
You can call police and also someone to fix anything straight away, saving time :)

Not to mention all the false alarms.

These things are just gimmicks to extract a few quid, you got a good alarm/imobiliser leave it at that.

Pretty much all break-ins which occur on the street or in car-parks are the smash and grab type. They'll ransack the whole car and take what they can grab and be out of there in a few minutes. It's pointless.

My friend had this. He got a text to tell him his car had been broken into.

Great feature, especially as he was in Spain at the time, and his car was in the UK.

any more thoughts?

getting a tilt sensor fitted to the car on Saturday and can get a toad text alert fitted for £160 at the same time.

one thing that impresses me is you can send a text to the car which will immobilise it if the keys are stolen too, then you can track to see where the car is (£20 per annum subscription)

really in 2 minds now!

For that price, If it gives you peace of mind, why not?

Im still not seeing the point of the text thing, or the movement sensor to be honest.

I just want an alarm to go off when its broken into, not someone rubbing against it, or a car driving past.

This is an alternative to the text option for 2 way communication, previous owner had this fitted on my old car, and it was quite good. Obviously won't stop anything happening to the car but the extra information was pretty cool.

Could tell at a glance whether the lights were on, locked or unlocked, doors/bonnet/boot open, engine on, tilt or shock sensors active etc. Beeps and/or vibrates as notification.

The range is fairly localised though (I never tested its limits).
