Alaska Eclipse - Finally dated?

Hey guess, had my Eclipse about 8 years now, pretty much since it came out and only running an Intel E8400 setup, planning to move to an i5 in the next 3-4 months and was wondering if this case is finally past it? Not sure if the case is as good for cooling as is needed nowadays, and also in the way of sound deadening? I'm probably barking up the wrong tree but just wanted people's opinions of using them with current spec system builds!
 
I'd still use it if I were you. Adequate cooling (120mm intake and exhaust) and still like the majority of cases still in terms of hdd mounting (with regards to sound/vibration dampening).

If using today, I'd install 2 new 120mm fans, perhaps switch over to a Corsair H80 cooler for the CPU and an aftermarket GFX cooler.

Should be as silent as any other average present case on the market.

Unless of course you fancy an appearence change, by which all means look for a new case :p.
 
Not a bad call, thanks, had these Noctua fans in for 5 years and as good as they hae been, things are a tad noisier than they should be!

Are the corsair closed circuit coolers that good and not too loud then? Was contemplating one but also not wanting to spend a stupid amount right now!

Also, the Eclipse is the only thing thats sparked "Hmm, I think thats too big" from the gf :(
 
No way, its a brilliant case. Most new cases just offer a few gimmicky features that are not needed really. I bought a Corsair 650D and tbh the eclipse was much better in terms of build quality and cooling. The only real reason I am keeping the Corsair is that the brushed front looks better.

It has great cooling with the 120mm fans. I guess a case that has 2 x 120mm up front would offer better cooling, but I had a kama bay with a slow running fan in my eclipse.

The HDD bay is lacking in any vibration dampening I will admit that. This Corsair has some little rubber grommets that suspend the fixing pins and seems to work pretty well. In my eclipse I bungee modded the drives and that works extremely well.
 
Still use one with my second rig, an i7 930, x58 rig, oc'd at 4.0ghz. Cooling isnt a problem even with a hot running cpu like this.
 
still got an old agp rig in mine I want to be buried with my eclipse, If I were a midget I could probably use it as my coffin
 
C64, no need to be a midget mate, the eclipse is that big for a midi tower, wait till rigor mortis has passed, youll be able to be bent into a good enough shape to fit in an eclipse.:D

Seriously though, it's still a very good case, build quality puts a lot of more modern cases to shame. And the cooling isnt bad, whack a scythe kama/lian li bay fan unit into it and it runs cool as the fonze in a fridge.
 
I had a Kama Bay before, but for what I was running it was overkill, its comical looking into the huge thing now and seeing a few SSD's! :D

I bought mine before Akasa got on the bandwagon, bought it from a custom pc company called SavRow based in London, doesn't exist anymore.

I only got rid of mine last year, lasted me about 9 years, bought a Corsair 650D Mid-Tower Case, and I'm already upgrading to a new case within a year.

The Akasa Eclipse is worth keeping in my opinion, mod the side panel to fit a 140mm or 200mm side fan, I wish I had done that, also not many cases come with wheels.

My brother is using his one since 2006 and it now houses his 2500k setup from E6600 and i5 750. My case is HAF922 and when I bought it I made the size comparison and Eclipse is only slightly smaller. Its still a large case for mid size standards and you should definitely keep it. Still impressive looking case:)
 
i have 2 in the corner, im meaning to mode one at least! but its defo worth using, i would love to have the money to get on with the modding side of things it'd be great to see how many rads i could stuff in!
i think possible about 3-4 240mm's maybe more if i was smart with tubing and rad placement, but it would be pretttyyy sweet! :D

8 years!! Now that's value ;)

I'm running an Omega for the last 4 or 5 years, same thing really except 2x120mm fan cutouts on the top and side. Still a quality case, the only thing I prefer about newer cases is the slightly better cable management.
 
I have an akasa eclipse a silverstone ft01 and now a raven rv03 the rv03 is a worthy upgrade to the eclipse and reminds me of the eclipse in a way with it's width.
 
Replaced mine last christmas as the PSU was gaining a lot of heat from a clocked i7 doing renders, for the last 6 months of its life it was upside down so the PSU was at the bottom and it ran a lot better. Only replaced it as I got a silverstone tj09 for peanuts so the eclipse is now running a pentium based file server :)
