Morning folks,

I came across this title last night and seems to be a cross platform sandbox MMO. Their video shows it off quite well.

Take a peek!

Key Features

Key Features

Player-driven economy
•All items AND buildings are player crafted.
•Build your own villages and towns.
•Rent out land or industrial buildings to other guilds.

PvP & Full Loot
•One of the first games to combine PvP, player-driven-economy and full loot in a free-to-play game.
•Death is meaningful as you can lose your whole inventory in a heartbeat.

Free-to-play
•We, the developer, will not sell items to players. We act only as a central bank in exchanging currencies. Items and resources can only be bought from other players.
•Every player can realistically acquire every in-game item and every premium service without paying real money.

Unique character customization
•There are no character classes in Albion Online. Your class is determined by what you are wearing!
•You can combine every item in the game. There are no boundaries as to what you can make
•Want to be a mage/knight hybrid with magical cloth armor wielding a sword and shield? In Albion Online, you can!

Cross platform & one massive world
•Every player in Albion Online plays on one master server, in one huge game world
•Sitting in a café, playing on your tablet? You’re in the same world as your friend at home on their PC!

Territory control system
•Our core gameplay involves conquering territories.
•Conquering and holding territories has many advantages:
•… Access to resources and areas in which to build your village.
•… Protection from the dangers of the wild and the demons of the void.

It's nice to see new ideas, or at least expanding on ideas (e.g. build player villages instead of just player houses).

The combat didn't look that interesting, in that 1 video at least. Hopefully something they will work on.

I quite like the graphics style, but I'm not really a fan of looking down on the characters. Although that camera angle does bring back memories of Legend of Mir :D

I'm not sure about the interface. Especially the inventory/looting, I don't really like the huge square blocks. It would probably make it easier to play on tablet though.

Sadly nothing to do with Blue Byte's 1996 RPG Albion, of which had one of the most original worlds created in a video game. Got my hopes up for a moment there...

Great game that was, so ambitious with the story - the settings & even the first person/3rd person switching pending on area.

*necro bump*

So the Winter Testing has been announced for January 26th.

Everything I have seen suggests this game should be pretty good, echoes of Ultima Online in there. The cross platform aspect is a good idea, some mobile games are really cashing in with millions of $£$£ being made in things like Clash of Clans. Potentially means I can do crafting while sitting on a train with my tablet and reserve PvP when in front of PC.

I love the graphical style, it looks as if it's aiming for a similar funding scheme to LOTRO has these days? free accounts + premium and micro transactions though.

All games are doing that model now just to be able to compete. I think the days of pure subscription only model are numbered - particularly for new releases.

same deal as eve and plex then with no items or resources generated out of thin air and sold? no nerfs to harvesting resources etc to make one spend money?

oh wait the founders pack come with gold that already has a real world currency value assigned to it.

if not all economy is generated by the players then they are just creating currency out of thin air which leads to inflation and is just pure pay to win.
imo in mmos all gold and resources/items that enter an mmo should come from drops and ingame quest rewards etc

like in eve you can't just outright buy isk from CCP the isk has to have been generated by a players actions in game.

I think it looks interesting. I like the idea of it being completely cross-platform, the graphic style is one I like.

I can see what Arknor is saying...on the one hand you have to make everything...but on the other becoming a founder at the top level nets you a horse, clothes, etc. Yet I feel that's nice...people are getting a very good deal out of becoming a founder.

But then these guys have to make a living out of this. With EVE you have to pay that subscription to play. If this is F2P a lot of folks will just leech off it and never put a penny into it.

i do wonder what will prevent a guild or league of guilds from effectively taking over the whole world, though?

Sadly I don't have the cash to become a founder. :(

Alpha begins today, anyone looking for a quirky little sandbox should check it out. Mind you the founders packs are pretty steep but from what I've seen are well worth it.

They are doing a referral system at the moment that kickbacks some rewards, I'll be happy to give anyone a jump start in game if you decide to purchase, just post your user id here.

Referral link: Link removed - no referral links!

Non Referral link: https://albiononline.com

Well decided to give this a try bought the veteran founds pack, looks like it could be interesting, I like the emphases on guilds.

This is being released in a few days. I thought I was done with mmo's but this one sounds pretty good!

I'm getting that gnawing feeling again...
