Albion Online MMO - In Alpha -

So this will be out in a few days, think the early access/paid people started yesterday. I've heard that you really need to be in a guild for it to be any good. No single player/small group play in there at all??

Couple of friends have been inalpha and purchased the $100 pack so have had a 2 day headstart over me.

Awaiting the 2pm veteran launch today so i can grind upto tier IV asap

Had a look on youtube at this but can't get excited based purely on how it looks. However, I'm really excited about Legends of Aria (previously Shards Online) as it appears so similar to Ultima Online, which IMO is the best MMO (full loot, PVP, sandbox) ever made.

Legends of Aria looks awesome.

But I will be playing Albion, signed up and started playing in the test phases must be 3 years ago nearly.

Have been watching some recent gameplay videos, why does everything look like it's in slow motion? It's like they're running/walking through treacle.

Your speed depends on how much you are carrying and other things. You have spells to boost speed for a short time and you need to get mounts, which is not too difficult early on.

Just watched a video of a guy creating a character and playing through the little tutorial, even wearing nothing but the starter rags and the first leather stuff he created his character looked as if it was running in slow motion. Then he got to a town where there were quite a few other advanced players, some were on mounts, and they also looked they were walking/running in slow motion.

I think I get what you mean, you dont really feel it in the game. My main complaint with the game is the way the map is laid out and the movement/transition between the zones. Maybe a beta/testing thing but you'd walk from a sunny or grassy place into instance deep snow. It makes the world feel very samey.

What's the grind like in this game?

Insane!

This is the core hook of the game:

1. Gathering resources to increase your gathering skills, to gain access to higher tier resource nodes.
2. Crafting items to increase your crafting skill and unlock the ability to craft better gear, which also unlocks the ability to gather higher tier nodes.
3. Grinding endless amounts of mobs with certain items equipped, with no difference in the look of mobs, to unlock the ability to use the higher tier weapons, armour and to unlock new abilites.
4. Once you've reached a point you're happy with, you then go and find PvP, to either die and loose all your ****, then repeat step 1 -> 2 -> 4 again or to kill people and loot their ****, which you probably have the same or better already equipped.
5. You may, once in a month, get GvG based PvP
