Alcohol as a performance enhancer

But even if you could, pointless, totally pointless. Any energy you burn and good effect from the exercise is ruined by the calories intake from the beers.

I'm not advocating the idea of drinking before excercise but that logic is only applicable if the excercise's purpose is to LOSE weight....if it's to GAIN weight ie muscle mass then it's not that indifferent from protein/calory shakes I suppose, with the added benefit of allowing you to push your muscles further.

As long as you're sobre the next day for the muscle's recovery :D

It's more like a training aid than a performance enhancer. Obviously you wouldn't use it for a competition, but say you were stuck for a long time at a certain weight for barbell curls or whatever and wanted to shock your body into getting past that plateau. For the next couple of workouts you could get slightly drunk and crank out more reps than normal and shock your biceps in to adjusting. Then go back to being sober again and you could curl a higher weight than before.

That's a pathetic way to do it though, there are better things to give you some 'pumps' to help you do something like this.
Or better still just use a different training method.

This seems applicable:

Its probably a placebo effect coupled with the lowered reservations and increased anger that alcohol can bring.

A usual motivator is to get some hench unit to shout at you whilst you train, I'm sure Morba will volunteer :p

If you want to improve your speech-slurring, vocal volume, desire to sing loudly and badly, incomprehensibility, vomiting, falling over and making a complete ******** out of yourself then Alcohol can indeed provide a big boost.

I become a pool legend after a few drinks, though after a few more I suck bad.

As for performance, I can go all night after a few beers ;)

Haha OP, I see you posted in GD for the luls rather than the body building forum where you'd get lectured on being a fool!

All the alcohol is doing is changing your perception and numbing your physical reponses.

Still though, alchohol does have certain performance enhancing abilities. Such as what Nick1881 mentioned and also I find when I'm sober I dance like a less than averagely skilled white geeky dancer. However, when I'm ****ed I dance like Michael Jackson! Heee-heee!

I PB'd on bench after 5 jack and cokes. Now I always get drunk before hitting the gym! :D

Okay the second bit's a lie but the first bit is true.

I did see a study on alcohol and online gaming.

I find that between 1-2 beers my quakelive can improve. Depending on how tired i am to begin with, once i get to 3 beers then i can't use certain weapons and then between 4-6+ i am just not as sharp as i was before.

But when i drink 1-2 beers i definitely get a burst of energy, so i could see how that could assist with weights, but not cardio and definitely not after 3 beers, well for me anyway.

Bill Werbeniuk used it to enhance his performance...

From Wiki: 'Werbeniuk was noted for the copious amounts of alcohol he consumed before and during matches – up to 30 pints of lager per day.[1] He said that he generally drank around six pints of lager before a match and then one pint for each frame. He said he did this to counteract familial benign essential tremor.'
