I like a wee whiskey on a Saturday night. But on weeknights I'd like to enjoy the experience of whiskey without the intoxicating effect of alcohol. Any recommendations for low or zero alcohol content spirits?

I tried some of those alcohol free gins when they were giving bottles of them out at work for free. They try to use herbs and spices to try and recreate the flavours. I think this would be hard to do with whisky. Some of the smoky flavours would be possible but the others will be really hard to match.

I had a quick look on Amazon. According to some reviews it can be done. Lyre's alcohol free whiskey seems to be decent according to reviews. Twenty odd quid to find out though. Did the alcohol free gin give that strong afterglow that spirits tend to do?

No. You don’t get those after effects but gin doesn’t do that as much anyway. I would try the whisky but I doubt it will be remotely close but that’s good to hear the reviews are positive.

ive been drinking alcohol free whisky and beer all week.

First things first, AF whisky is nothing like whisky. AF beer is almost as good as the real thing if you choose some good microbrews.

The AF spirits obviously lack the burn, and that makes it hard to compare. The smell is similar to a basic blended whisky or america n bourbon, but it tastes much more dilute. They also cost more than a cheap whisky.

saying that it is pleasant to have a glass and can help reduce consumption.

I see AF spirit alternatives that just try and maximize spices, these are probably better andn will be my next purchase.

Since I quit drinking I'll happily enjoy an alcohol free beer or cider, but I draw the line at alcohol free spirits.
Don’t get the market. As those I know don’t drink drink soft drinks or if had been drinking in the past, like you only drink AF beer and cider.

Plus the AF spirits are sometimes more money than the proper stuff!

As someone who doesn't drink and has never been drunk........why?
Surely its missing the point of drinking spirits if you want to ignore the alchohol part.

How about some ice cold filtered water with ice cubes and a lemon slice?

As you spelled it whiskey and not whisky you must like the inferior stuff ;) and if it's the burning sensation you like perhaps try petrol?

You're mileage might vary though.

I recommend you don't strive after the unobtainable. If you want to enjoy the experience of whiskey your only option is whiskey because anything else isn't the same. You might be able to find something that tastes like whiskey, but even if you do it won't be the same experience.
