Alex higgins R.I.P

Terrible shame to lose a great, but after seeing a picture of him recently this doesn't surprise me. R.I.P.

You will live your life and people will come and go. That is for granted. You will also meet people that stick in your life and make an impression.

When the cold reality I was not going to be a football player landed at age 6! (:P) Snooker took my fancy along with Alex. Of course, I never became a snooker player and he is, was, still an idol.

Alex 'Hurricane' Higgins is a keeper and I am genuinely sad he has left us.

God bless, Alex. Meet you up there.

Rip, the only man who made snooker watchable, i had the pleasure of meeting him a few years ago, a really nice fella, very down to earth.

He was before my time watching snooker, I can remember the likes of Steve Davis and Hendry for boredom but Jimmy White for interest.

Very sad to see a talented sportsman decay the way he did, he obviously had huge mental problems, where was the help for the guy, although I suppose if you are an alcoholic you are ****ed.

What is it with Northern Irish Superstar sportsmen and alcohol?

As Tk7 says, his death was imminent looking at recent photos where he was no more than a skeleton. Sad news though, RIP.

He was one of snooker's truly gifted players. He was capable of high class tactical play but you never usually saw that. Alex was a firm believer that losing with style was greater than winning in a boring fashion.

Rest in peace - snooker will be a boring(er) place without you.

The "George Best" of snooker. Pity.

Yes, something along these lines, two men killed by their addictions to alcohol.
Higgins was a sad case, 15 years ago when I was at Uni, you could see him round the pubs during the day, often trying to bum a free drink off someone. It was very sad indeed.
