Lo folks,

I been toying with the idea of getting a new car for months now. I don't want anything blisteringly quick as long as its as pokey as my current Focus ST170 I'll be happy enough.

Anyhow I'm drawn to the Brera its just so damn good looking. Originally I was planning on spending £20k when it came to buying but now with the world as it is I have reigned that in to a more reasonable £14k. There seem to be a couple of the 2.4 Brera at this price range.

Anyone got any experience of them?

Cheers.

good job you're not afer a quick car ;)

The brera could have been much better, it's pretty, as said, but thats about it.

You're all wrong, it's Vauxhall.

Vectra floor, it weighs a lot, which is the reason its slow and doesn't handle like it should.

As for the engines: The diesel is Italian, but it's a diesel, so it's the devils work. The 2.2 JTS, and the 3.2 V6 both use a GM block. So don't expect the best noise in the world ever from the V6, which the true Alfa V6 gives.

The affair with GM has come to an end now, and they are keen to replace the 159 quickly. With their own floor, and their own engines. But unfortunately, they're going to try and make the next few cars look like the 8C, which as we can see from the Mito, makes for a minger.

A shame really, as the 159, Brera, and Spider are all achingly pretty. I'd love something with the expected Giulia's floor and engine, but a 159 on top, but I think it'll be a while before we see an Alfa I'd be happy to own again.

hmmmm, not so good then. Any recommendation for around 14k ?

Boxster S? Should get you a good quality 2002/03 car with decent miles and good history. 260bhp as well. Ok, you'll get the nobbers taking the mick but who cares what those with a fiat punto and an attitude problem think tbh...?

I was looking for cars around 14-16k that are quick and nice to drive

eventually settled on an 08 Focus ST 500 - also looked at R32, 350z, z4 coupe, 330, S3

It's an 'okay' car. There's not much steering feel, you don't quite feel like you're connected to the car and the 2.2 I drove felt like it was over-tyred and underpowered. It is something different I suppose but its lightyears behind something like a Boxster in the way that it feels to drive. Why would you buy one of these when it depreciates faster than a brick falling off a cliff and when there are the likes of the E92, Z4 Coupe, 350Z, Boxster etc for the same sort of money?

PS. If you're in Hull, you'd stick out like a sore thumb driving one of these. Trendy car + horrible area :p
