She might not like Lifeforce though. Mathilda May (very gorgeous) spends 99% of her on-screen time stark naked. Great for you but she might not appreciate the comparison (that women always seem to make). Fantastically for me, it always gets my other half horny.

It's still a masterpiece.
The practical effects may seem slightly dated, but they're still better and more effective than the cgi in the crappy prequel from a couple of years back.

You owe it to yourself to watch this film.

Indeed, it's still a very disturbing film in that you keep thinking about the transformation scenes for a while afterwards. The 2011 might not live up to the original but still has some great transformation scenes

How about The Mist?

Yeah, there were one or two scenes that were decent. It was just a bit too generic with the teeth and tentacles for me though, and it basically degenerated into a chased by monsters movie.
The main issue is the lack of real tension, which is what really made Carpenter's version so brilliant (along with the gross out stuff of course ).

The Mist is a good shout, but the missus'll probably be depressed as **** after the final twist

Aside from everything already mentioned "Communion" from 1989 is pretty good as far as alien weirdness goes.

what about a tv series? The Outer Limits I seem to remember being pretty good for horror...but I was probably only 11
