Recently played it and although at times demanding and frustrating I can only say it was very atmospheric, creepy and scary and got the hair on the back of my neck standing up at times.
Yes it's definitely up there with the most tense horror gaming experiences I've had. So much so that completing the game felt like a real achievement for just managing to get through to the end.
If you play it, word of advice... you don't have to crouch everywhere you go.
It's safe to walk all the time in the station, only time you shouldn't walk is when the Alien or other enemies are close like in the same room, same corridor or if you and the enemies are very close.
Yea that game was great, so glad I did my first playthrough on one of the hard difficulties.
My only criticism was for me the hardest part of the game was in the medical area about a third of the way through, died, so many times in that section. But rest of the game then seemed easier after that.
Lockers isn't the best places to hide, they should be used as a the only thing that you can hide in when you got no time to hide anywhere else.
Hiding behind objects, tables, chairs, boxes and playing cat and mouse with the Alien is the best way, the game "cover" system, you might think it can see you, but since you behind that object, it won't, unless it detects you by sound or light by objects in your hand.
If you hide in lockers too much, it triggers the Alien and other enemies to start checking them more often.
As long you got enough health, when the Alien checks the locker you are inside, you can lean backwards and hold your breathing, but don't stop holding it till the Alien has walked away a few feet, don't release it right away or it will detect you instantly.
Gotta keep a balance between hiding under tables, behind boxes and lockers, this will keep the Alien guessing where you are.
That said, the best defence is to keep moving, the Alien is tied to you like a dog lead, if you always moving forward, it will be behind you.
The medical section is a good example of this! Starting from the moment you open the door with the keypad, you can easy walk all the way from that door to the room with the doctors keycard with the Alien always behind you.
After you got the keycard, you likely need to wait for the Alien to go in an other direction or into the vents, then you can escape by the shortcut.
Clearing it under a few minutes or less.
Can't always be done in some sections, since you need to press buttons and stuff and go backwards somethings in the same section.
Okay, that's for me. I couldn't play it. The first film when I was in my teens probably didn't help, but I really found it incredibly atmospheric, to the point that I was bricking myself and finally removed it from my hard drive.
