Aliens : Dark Descent

I dunno, I think this will actually play pretty well. Especially if it's like Dawn of War
To expand, it's not a game style I personally enjoy that much these days (about 15/20 years too late for my RTS peak), maybe if it was Xcom style turn based I might bite - there is mention you can slow things down to help make decisions but i'd want an actual turn based game myself.

This looks like it might be worth a blast! I enjoy a good XCOM style squad based strategy game where you can level up and customise your squad and being real time could be interesting as well. It helps I love the Alien franchise too.

out Yesterday, Peoples thoughts?
I watched Cohh stream it for 2 hours, looks pretty good, very atmospheric. No way I would buy it though until they release a patch to turn off the voice responses, even in just 2 hours it was driving me nuts the character shouting "Come on team!" , "Double time!" , "Lets Move" every single time you moved the characters. Was WAY OTT.

tad bit to expensive at moment. reviews look to be mostly positive
there are a hand full of negatives (31 at count) out of 400+
and a lot if them are "its not bad But.."

The atmosphere is great, performance is a little choppy for how the game looks but it's not unplayable.

I've encountered a couple of bugs, xenomorphs getting stuck in the floor and being unable to move etc.

If you're big into Aliens and like isometric style strategy (real time) titles it's definitely worth giving a shot.

Gameplay still does nothing for me as posted a few months back but story trailer grabbed my attention. I'll either grab it cheap, fly through on easy mode to get the story or just watch a youtube video when someone inevitably stitches the cut scenes together.

Picked it up yesterday and played around an hour. Pretty good so far and the gameplay is fun. It has some annoying quirks. Like your whole squad moves as one, but if you want to open something across the room one of them peels off and goes to it by themselves. They need to tone down the voices during missions, with the squad shouting "Double time!" (etc) every time you move, or always announcing when they are in cover. There's only a few lines of dialogue for it and it gets old fast. Models and animations are a bit poor also; I swear they aren't much better than the original XCOM which came out about a decade ago.

Only still on the first mission but it seems alright so far, very different from what I was expecting. It feels more like a stealth game at the moment which is actually much better for the atmosphere, the xenos are pretty deadly as they should be, it's rather alarming the first time you get yourself into a bad spot and you see how squishy your marines are, or better yet when they get abducted

Marine voices I totally see the point, unfortunately that's going to get annoying fast so hopefully they can patch something in to reduce it. I've found the volume mix to be a bit all over the place as well if I'm honest, It's taken a bit of tweaking to get it all nice and balanced, could just be me though. The music sounds very close to the second film though when the action kicks in, I'm sure I heard a jingle of the main theme at one point as well.

It's already fired up my love for the franchise again, tempted to go back and play some of the older games after this, don't know if I can hack Isolation again though :D

Huzzah

Patch Notes :
Drastically reduced the occurence of the squad leader's acknowledgement after an order
The "Double Time" line will not play anymore after a walk order (but for your pleasure can still be triggered by a run order)
Fixed some crashes

Awesome! Glad they fixed that so quickly, seems the dev's are on the ball :)

I'm not very far into it but enjoying it and it's far more story driven than I thought. Quite a slow start but I'm starting to unlock things. Completely agree that it brings a real stealth element to the game but I also get the idea that you can sprint around a lot at the start.

Really reminds me of Full Spectrum Warrior but with a isometric view instead of perspective. It's the same style of move squads as a whole and have them auto target etc.

I've got more of a handle on the different systems now and things have started opening up after unlocking a few different weapon options. It's definitely very brutal in terms of difficulty when you first start playing, plenty of instant wipe outs for me. As soon as you learn to slow down, rest often and pull out when things are starting to get a bit dicey, the game becomes a lot more manageable.

I had a good run on one of the missions and stayed around too long trying to one shot it, I then got spotted just before I could weld in and rest which led to a chain of bad events. Marines went up a stress level, a big attack came from going up to high threat level, then an alien got too close and managed to knock one unconscious, spraying acid everywhere on death to damage to everybody down to uncomfortable levels. By the time the encounter was over I'd lost both of my sentry guns, used all my med kits & tools, ammo was low and there were now loads of patrols on the prowl.

I tried to make a rush to the APC, got spotted again and was basically met with:

So yeah, don't let it get up to High threat level and expect to get out in one piece :D
